I’m really hoping that this Summer weather is here to stay. The children only have 2 weeks left at school until their 6 weeks off. The summer holidays always seem a little easier when the sun is shining. For the last few years we’ve kept a summer scrapbook, this is a great activity for us all to be involved with, it encourages the children to write and is a lovely memento of our family adventures.
Why you should make a Summer scrapbook with your kids
A few weeks ago I saw some colourful scrapbook kits in Flying Tiger so bought one for each of my children. I usually give them to them around this time so they can personalise their books and start to think about what we’re going to do and what they might like to keep.
These kits were great value. Each box contained a scrapbook with blank pages, patterned paper, stickers, washi tape and some mini envelopes. The front of the album has a clear pocket too. I got one pink and one black covered scrapbook, the rest of the contents seem to be the same.
I can only see positive points for just why you should make a Summer scrapbook with your kids. For starters it encourages the children to be creative. I don’t really struggle with this as both my children love to write, draw and create. A scrapbook encourages them to write. This is so important to prevent the dreaded ‘Summer brain drain’ and something I’m passionate about with my two. I can see it happen so stock up on fun activity books to help prevent this. A scrapbook is a great way to encourage them to keep writing. Make a note of fun days out and memories and encourage them to write it all down.
A Summer scrapbook also makes a lovely memento of our family adventures, especially as this year as we’re off to Holland for a week! We’re so excited and have planned a few days out to Amsterdam and Rotterdam. We can stick in tram and train tickets, receipts and tickets for days out in the scrapbooks. Hopefully the children will end up with a lovely handmade keepsake for years to come.
Of course you don’t need to buy a kit to make a Summer scrapbook. In previous years we’ve used blank notebooks from Hobbycraft. I’m hoping they’ll enjoy the extras which were included in these kits!

I’ve always admired my parents’ collection of photographs from before and after I was born and I love the idea of making something similar to remember days gone by. Scrapbooking would be a great way to do this.
