Washi tape bunting for Father’s Day

This year is going incredibly fast for our little family. Life is so busy but my 8-year-old is getting excited for Father’s Day next month. He is a real daddy’s boy and just loves making gifts for people. I can’t tell you just yet what he’s making (as my husband reads my blog) but he asked me to help him with a gift box to hold his gift. I think that the packaging should be just an interesting as the gift inside. I found a lovely range of packaging boxes and gift accessories from SelfPackaging.

I can’t resist their colourful washi tape selection. Washi tape is such a useful craft product and perfect for adding a personal touch to gift wrap.

I thought I would make an embellishment for a Father’s Day gift. I got a sturdy cardboard box for my son and made a string of washi tape bunting to decorate the outside.

It was so simple to make. I cut a long length of string. Cut small pieces of washi tape, all different lengths, and folded them over the string.

The washi tape can be re-positioned so it was easy to place it where I needed. Then I cut the raw edge into a point to make it look more like mini bunting flags.

I created a whole load, varying the different washi tapes, until I had a decent length, which was long enough to wrap around the cardboard box.

When I had finished I took the cardboard box and wrapped my washi tape bunting around the outside, securing it in place with tape.

I thought my cardboard could do with a little more embellishing so added a strip of washi tape along the bottom edge of the box. I also made a simple gift tag with a few strips of washi tape for my son to write on – everything co-ordinating!

My son really likes it all (phew!) and I can’t wait to reveal the Father’s Day gift which will be popped inside it soon.

Oh that is so sweet, my little boy is just the same – he loves making things for people. You’ve given me an idea now, we’ll have to make something for Father’s Day too, he’ll love that! x
