Vaccinations and the MMR

A couple of weeks ago we took Edward for his 12 month jab. We were surprised to find that they now do the 12 and 13 month jabs together which meant he was due the MMR. I had taken my husband with me for moral support and we both decided we wanted time to think about whether Edward should have the MMR jab.

A few weeks later we both knew we wanted Edward to have the MMR so last week we went back to the doctor’s. Again my husband came with us for moral support. We’d previously had an appointment with a vicious nurse but we were fortunate to have a lovely gentle nurse administer the injection this time.

We were warned about possible side effects and also told that due to the current outbreak of measles in Europe, Edward could have his booster in 3 months, rather than waiting for his pre-school jabs in a couple of years.

The MMR has turned my loving son into a monster. Since his injection he’s had a runny and blocked nose and been generally whingey from the moment he wakes up. We’ve given him infant nurofen when necessary but I can’t wait to have my little boy back. I know these side effects are normal and only last up to 10 days. We met up with a friend whose son had also had the MMR last week and we could barely hear ourselves talk over the noise of our two moaning and being generally unhappy. I hate to see him suffer but hope this means he’s protected and we don’t ever have to go through the real thing.
