The Simple Things

I was stupidly excited when I heard the people behind Mollie Makes were bringing out a new magazine called The Simple Things. I’ve decided that I need my monthly fix of craft eye candy, even if I’ve never made any of the cover gifts, to keep me sane.

The idea behind The Simple Things is to embrace a simple life. This is what I need. My life is cluttered, my brain is cluttered, my house is cluttered. I picked up a copy, read through it and knew what we would be doing today. An article about picking fruit really struck a chord with me. The toddler hates walking barefoot on grass and dislikes real animals (but loves them in picture books!). We love living in London but have decided we need to encourage him to explore the outdoors outside of his garden so we headed to our nearest Pick Your Own farm.

Despite living in Zone 3 the farm was only 20 minutes away. The weather was perfect and Parkside Farm is amazing fun. They grow nearly 20 different fruits and vegetables which are grown exclusively for Pick-Your-Own between June and October. We spent a good couple of hours there today, picking blackberries, raspberries, spinach, onions and courgettes. The toddler had a great time, walking for miles, picking, eating and carrying baskets of fruit, helping daddy pull the trolley, and learning about where real food comes from.

The Simple Things has lots of great content and plenty of things to inspire me, especially the recipe for spice cake with rhubarb!
