I love the start of a new year. Each month I love to write a round up of what I’ve been making and my analogue hobbies. This helps me to see what I’ve made, and holds me accountable for projects half started or bought. This year I’m calling my series The Monthly Thread. June’s post is all about cross stitch & murals.
The Monthly Thread: June’s cross stitch & murals
June was obviously another month of trying new crafts and I got my hands dirty with air drying clay kit, made my own basket and some cross stitch. June has been a busy month, but I made sure to make time for some creativity in those quieter moments, carving some much needed me time.
Reading
In June I read four books which is great for me! I finished two fiction books: Greengates by RC Sherriff and The Valley of Ravens by Barbara Erskine. There were two craft books too: Air-Dry Masterpieces by Hazel Brady with ideas for more than 50 adorable air-dry projects and Creative Junk Journalling: How to collect everyday keepsakes and cherish your memories by Natasha Ahmed. Thanks to these books, I was able to explore the art of air dry clay by making my own trinket dish, and made a custom mini tin too.
Making
The Fifa World Cup started in June so we decided to update our 3D printed Lego wreath with mini football and gold cups. It looks perfect for celebrating the football.
I started a cross stitch sardines pattern as sardines are everywhere at the moment. It was forgotten as soon as my teabreak project arrived. I decided to try a subscription box and my first box included everything needed to make a basket. The idea behind the box is to give yourself a teabreak, sit down and make something. The basket was enjoyable to make and I liked trying a new craft.
Visiting
My youngest teen and I popped into London over the weekend to visit the Frida Kahlo inspired murals. A new retrospective of her work has just opened at Tate Modern and there are six murals to celebrate her work around Tate Modern and Bankside. We also discovered street art, food markets and beautiful views along the way.
