A couple of weeks ago I saw a poster advertising the Creation Station, educational creative fun. As soon as I saw it I knew it would be perfect for my 4 year old. Since Little Sis has come along we’ve found it really hard to find an organised activity they can both do but with her attending nursery two mornings a week we now have a little more time.
The idea of the activity is to stimulate your child’s senses through the medium of art, craft, music and movement. My son was a little shy to begin with but as soon as he saw a table full of craft material he was happy to get stuck in.
The theme for our session today was triangles and the craft was making a boat and a sail. There was no ‘right’ way to do this so I was happy to sit back and watch my son create his own boat from playdough. There were buttons, craft sticks and feathers to use and he had a great time rolling the dough and forming the shape of the boat which he quickly decided was a pirate boat.
Then he made a sail using a triangular piece of card, craft sticks, paint and glitter. Finally he put the two together and also decorated a piece of card to look like an island. I was so impressed with his imagination which was working overtime!
He had a lovely time and the best thing was he was given overalls to protect his clothes, there was a bucket where he could wash his hands, and he was able to take his pirate boat home to show the family. Can’t wait for next week!
