A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that although we always thought we would only buy wooden toys, the plastic mafia have crept in. Well, I think I just wasn’t looking in the right place. I’ve recently found a great online shop which sells lovely wooden toys for boys and girls: WoodenToyShop.co.uk – a world of fun with wooden toys! The site is really easy to use and features the best wooden toy stockists, including Bigjigs, John Crane, Plan, Brio, Wheely Bugs and Quadrilla. I’ve seen plenty of toys Edward would love, including BigJigs Pirate Skittles, Melissa and Doug Farm…

The steal of my year was three vintage jigsaws for just 10p. I did query the woman who said 10p but obviously she didn’t see the potential in the jigsaws that I did. I happily handed over my 10p coin and took the jigsaws home. The vintage nursery The jigsaws were all made from thick board, cut into a few pieces and showed a cat and a dog, both in a similar style, and a third jigsaw of a clown character. I knew that the cat and dog would look amazing if they were framed and hung in Edward’s nursery.…

My son and I were invited to the Covent Garden Build A Bear store to see for ourselves the magic that goes into building a bear. So this morning we hopped on the tube and walked out into the beautiful sunshine at Covent Garden. The staff at the Covent Garden were incredibly friendly and helpful and took us through the steps needed to build a bear. My son eventually chose a dog, this step took ages as there were lots of animals to choose from! We decided to put a woof and a heart inside then we watched as he…

The warmer weather has coincided with Edward finding his feet and we’ve been spending an increasing amount of time outside. For his first birthday we bought him a sandpit to which we soon added a water play table, play tent and pretend lawn mover. Our garden now resembles a playground! Edward loves being outside and will stand at the back door jiggling the handle until I get the message he wants to go outside. http://vimeo.com/24238779 We also love to go out and about when we can. One of our favourite hobbies is geocaching – as long as we pick…

Yesterday I ventured to our local NCT playgroup for the first time. I’ve been meaning to go for ages but never got round to it. The playgroup was held in a lovely building with plenty of outdoor space. Indoors, the room was split into different play zones with space for soft play, art and crafts, musical toys, a pretend kitchen, a jigsaw table and dressing up clothes. We paid £1.50 for the play session which lasted 90 minutes and ended up with a singing session. I was really disappointed with it. It was our first time there and no-one spoke…

Edward and I go swimming each week. I’m not sure if he enjoys it as much as I’d like him too and this may be our last term of swimming for a while. The new term started yesterday so off we went and were very surprised to find the teacher in the pool for once. She usually sits on the side, barking orders and chatting to other members of staff 🙂 The lessons are very formulaic and as Edward only seems to like the jumping and splashing bits we join in when we want. He refuses to wear armbands or…

Last week Edward and I were invited to Westfield to learn more about a new partnership between Ella’s Kitchen and the ELC. They are working hard to ensure that everyone is hungry for fun! Every special stage 1 and baby brekkie pouch is currently wearing a bib which gives you 20% off at the Early Learning Centre plus the chance to win £100 worth of toys every day! We were lucky enough to meet the founder of Ella’s Kitchen – Paul Lindley, and we chatted to him about how he came up with the idea of Ella’s Kitchen and how…
