How to make an origami poppy wreath

On Sunday we will be marking Remembrance Sunday here in the UK, which falls on the second Sunday in November. Remembrance Day marks the day the First First World War ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918. A two-minute silence is held at 11am to remember the people who have died in wars. Although the children learn about Remembrance Day at school I think it is important to talk about it at home too. My Great Uncle died in the First World War so we look at photographs and talk about him at this time of year. Over the…

    Crafting pretty paper stars

There ‘s something about working with paper that I just love. Although I like to sew, I’m also really glad that I discovered paper craft too. This Christmas we added a huge paper star to our bay window so I was pretty excited to see a paper star kit along with my monthly Mollie Makes magazine. Regular readers will know that every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have had a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting…

    Paper Monsters by Oscar Sabini

I’m embarrassed to admit I can’t remember the last time, if there was one, that we made a collage. Although we craft with tissue paper and all sorts of materials, there are still some crafts we need to try. Today we popped our collage cherry, thanks to Paper Monsters by Oscar Sabini! Paper Monsters by Oscar Sabini Paper Monsters enables young children to make seven collage pictures of monsters in cleverly designed paper pockets in the book. Children can complete all the pictures to make a monster procession who appear to be hurrying to the last page. There they will…

Today I’m sharing our Teacher Appreciation card we made using two of my favourite dies – the Sizzix Bigz Die Award and Sizzix Thinlits Die Set Delicate Letters. The card is made in two parts – a separate rosette and card. We made the rosette into a badge which means it can be taken off and worn. You’ll find the full tutorial over on the Sizzix blog now! So I was pretty happy to discover Sizzix had sent me their latest Funky Flamingo Thinlits die to craft with. The Funky Flamingo die by Sophie Guilar features 3 dies which means you can use a variety of papers to give it some depth.
