    Creating an edible Gingerbread Village

    You all know that we love gingerbread and gingerbread houses. For us, it’s not just a Christmas thing – we love them all year round. In December we baked our first gingerbread house which only lasted a few days. So I bought a Gingerbread Village kit from Morrisons for us all to do over Christmas. Gingerbread Village from Morrisons We don’t have a Morrisons near us but when I popped into one I found they had some lovely products for Christmas. This year I could’t resist their Gingerbread Village. It consisted of 5 gingerbread house shapes with pre-made icing, jelly hearts, pucker…

    Visiting The Gingerbread City

    Today we visited the rather wonderful Gingerbread City in London. I heard about this a few days ago and knew we had to visit. London’s best architects have created an the incredible city made of gingerbread! As well as visiting the Gingerbread City you could also attend Gingerbread House Making Workshops and visit the little gingerbread shop. The Gingerbread City The Gingerbread City was organised by The Museum of Architecture. This is the second year of its successful Gingerbread City project, a fundraising exhibition that invites architects, urban planners and landscape designers to design a city made entirely of gingerbread. Building on…

    Brown paper bag gingerbread house craft for kids

    With the children finally finished school we have been able to spend the day making. There have been so many crafts I have wanted to try, so it’s lovely that we finally have the time. Ages ago we received some items in brown paper bags, and I put these to one side until ew had time to transform them into gingerbread houses! It was a quick and easy winter craft so if you are looking for a quick craft to keep your children busy then why not try this. All you need is brown paper bags and white pens or crayons.…

    How to make Gingerbread Rocky Road

    I have wanted to make Gingerbread Rocky Road for a long time. With things slowing down for Christmas I finally got round to it. I love Rocky Road anyway, it’s a kind of cake, containing a mixture of marshmallows, chocolate, and nuts. I’ve adapted my recipe from Nigella’s Christmas Rocky Road recipe. Ingredients to make Gingerbread Rocky Road 250 grams dark chocolate 150 grams milk chocolate 175 grams soft butter 4 tablespoons golden syrup 200 grams broken gingerbread house (I used part of a gingerbread house kit from Flying Tiger) 150 grams brazil nuts 150 grams red glace cherries 125…

    Our 2017 Gingerbread House {Witch’s Cottage}

    We love gingerbread houses – but you know that, right? Over the last few weeks I bought a few gingerbread house kits which I couldn’t wait to make with the family. But then I came across the BKD Mini Bakers Club and found out that the December theme was a gingerbread house – so of course I went and subscribed. I actually found a 50% off code which made the price of the box very reasonable. A few days later there was a knock on the door and the Postman handed me our box. I’ve tried a few products from…

    Gingerbread cheesecake {from a recycled gingerbread house}

    Every year we try and make a gingerbread house together. Living in London it is really easy to get hold of gingerbread kits, and I picked up one in Ikea and Flying Tiger (or Tiger as it used to be known). They are definitely a Christmassy thing but I think it’s becoming more acceptable to enjoy them all year round. A few years ago we decorated a Valentine’s gingerbread house and even a Halloween gingerbread house too. December was unusually busy so we didn’t get round to using the gingerbread kit I bought from Flying Tiger. We all love cheesecake…

    6 things to do with kids on Boxing Day

    Christmas can be hard for kids (and adults too!). The build up is immense, often starting in November with school fair’s and rehearsals for the Christmas nativity. We try to keep calm and enjoy the build up whilst not going overboard. This year we visited the Playmobil Santa’s Grotto at our local shopping centre, visited a National Trust house which had been transformed for Christmas, as well as taking a ride on our local Santa Express. We squeezed all these around normal weekend activities and swimming lessons! Since the children finished school things were a little more relaxed. We had…

    Monday Happy List – Week 111

    As someone who loves the changing seasons it feels like we have experienced two great events last week, starting with Halloween and ending with Bonfire Night. My kids go crazy for Halloween and were so excited to decorate the house and get themselves dressed up. We have lovely neighbours who we popped round to visit and received a handful of visitors ourselves. We’re probably the only household who still has their pumpkins outside but we had 4 and that’s a lot of pumpkin to dispose of. We ended the week with two Firework displays, one local and another near my…

    Letterbox Kits gingerbread house accessories kit

    A while ago I was looking through Etsy for something. I have forgotten what exactly as I so often follow links and discover the most amazing handmade items. On one such session I discovered Letterbox Kits and treated myself to the gingerbread house accessories kit. This cute little box landed on my doorstep. I opened it up to discover all these wonderful little things. Here’s a close up, aren’t those decorations adorable! I finally found some time to make them so sat down and looked through everything. I added white polymer clay to the roof of a gingerbread house for snow…
