Today we were learning about Earth Day. This is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22nd to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970 and goes from strength to strength each year.
We’re heard some amazing stories about how the world has been changing with the world in lockdown. These include air pollution dropping around the world, the water in the canals of Venice looking cleaner than ever and birds nesting earlier (can you tell we’re big fans of Steve Backshall’s Live Lessons on Facebook every Wednesday morning ?).

How to make a simple Earth Day mosaic
My daughter is obsessed with planets at the moment so we used a jam jar lid, drawing around it on the blue foam to create our foam planet earth covered with water.
My daughter cut it out (a great way to practice those fine motor skills!).
Then we cut small pieces of green foam to create the land. The children worked hard, creating continents they had learned about. My 10 year old wanted to add a lot of detail. They carefully attached their green land pieces and stuck them onto their planets with glue.
I love how their mosaic planets turned out. This was a great craft for their fine motor skills and they had a lot of fun making them.
