Sew, Mama, Sew fabric giveaway

Posted on May 22, 2011May 18, 2022 by jenny

I thought I would participate in the Sew, Mama, Sew May Giveaway Day 2011. Up for grabs I have one metre of Royal Wedding fabric which I bought from my favourite department store, John Lewis. The fabric was produced to commemorate the wedding of Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton on Friday 29th 2011. I was going to make something commemorative for the Royal Wedding but never got round to it. Rather than leave it sitting in my fabric drawer I thought I would offer it to someone who might actually use it! It would make lovely summery bunting, a cushion cover, could be incorporated into a quilt or even just kept for posterity.

Sew, Mama, Sew fabric giveaway

Royal Wedding fabric

  • the fabric is on a cream background and features a recurring pattern of lines of delicate florals and ribbons and a central panel showing the initials W and C within a garland, featuring the Union flag, the red cross of St George, the Saltire of St Andrew and the flag of Wales.
  • measures 140cm wide, length 1 metre
  • 100% cotton
  • hand wash only

My first idea was kitchen towels but it depends on the feel of the fabric. I also think it would look great as quilted placemats.

I think anything made with this fabric would be awesome. Thus far, I pretty much only make quilts. But I think this would be some fabric I would have to get in my hands and contemplate about before I make a final decision. I’d love to win it – such an awesome giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity to participate in your giveaway.

I would have to make a small lap robe with it… there is a lady who was born in England in the nursing home where my daughter works… she was so excited about the Wedding of the Century and she just loves Kate. This is such a wonderful giveaway. I watched the Royal Wedding here in Australia. They are a lovely couple, I think he is very sensible and grounded, due in no small way to how his mother “Diana” raised him. I would love to win this fabric. I would, firstly, take an appropriate piece and frame it then the rest for a cushion or two depending on what was left. 🙂

I think it would look lovely as patchwork, either a quilt or pillows. I’d be tempted to leave it as whole as possible, but patchwork could really highlight the center motif.

I’d be tempted to keep it for posterity, as I was there for the last royal wedding (I’m an Air Force brat.) and have a little collection, but I’d probably end up making something that keeps the print “intact” for my Anglophile sister. Perhaps a in a quilt or a bag??

What lovely fabric! I am not sure what I’d do with it exactly but should I win, I’m leaning along the lines of creating special covers for dream diaries for young girls. Or maybe tea time linens for a youngster to play “tea” with.

    The possibilities are swirling.

My great grandmother came over to the US from England with her mother and sisters in 1892 at the age of 3. Her mother had 2 possesions- her bible and a rocking chair. I have the rocking chair now and it is need of new cushions on the caning seat and the back. I’d love to use this fabric to bring a bit of the UK back to the chair 🙂

As an English teacher, I’d love to win this commemorative fabric!
I think I’d first make a pillow cover using the central panel with the intials, and probably use the rest for some kind of small pouch and a very British mug rug! 😉
    Thanks for the chance!

Seriously, fabulous fabric. I might break it up and use it to make a little lap quilt… or keep it entire and make a pillow… it’s so nice. Or, looking at other people’s suggestions, back a quilt, or apron… umm… if I don’t win… is it available online? Or for re-sale from someone? Don’t think I can get it in the US…. man, I miss fabric shopping in John Lewis. We used to do that all the time when we lived there…

I would make pillow covers and zippy bags. Then I would cut out the main design like you have pictured and feature it front and center in a quilt block and frame a piece under glass. What a wonderful memory of that special day.
