    7 James and the Giant Peach activities for kids {+ a book giveaway}

    We are so excited for Roald Dahl Day which is celebrated every year in September. This year Roald Dahl’s very first novel for children, James and the Giant Peach is the focus of the celebrations. It is such a great story. I’ve been re-reading it with my children and really look forward to reading a couple of chapters each night. This is a story which shows young readers that friends can come in the most unexpected forms – including an Old Green Grasshopper, a Spider and a Centipede – and arrive in the most surprising and magical places – inside a Giant Peach.…

    James and the Giant Peach story stones

    We love making story stones and decorating rocks. We have built up quite a stash so have been taking a few out with us every day and hiding them around the neighbourhood. It’s been so lovely to see friends finding them and posting them on our local painted rocks Facebook page. It definitely encourages us to make more. We recently told you about the theme for the 2018 Roald Dahl Day celebrations – James and the Giant Peach. A few years ago my son and I worked our way through all of Roald Dahl’s stories. When I mentioned James and…

    Monday mindfulness – Summer Holidays {Week 3}

    Happy Monday everyone. Hope you had a great weekend and are enjoying the school summer holidays. What a difference a week makes. We started off the week with a heatwave, experienced torrential rain and storms and are now enjoying decent summer temperatures. Each week I start off by writing my Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things blog post. It’s a great chance to reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures – it’s a post I always enjoy writing. Monday mindfulness – Summer holidays edition On Monday we…

    Summer activities for kids – painted rocks

    We’re huge fans of painting and hiding rocks. Over the Bank Holiday weekend we hid a lot of painted rocks. Both my children have been decorating a lot so recently I varnished everything so we could take them out with us whilst we were away. I think that painted rocks make a great low-cost activity that will keep any child busy over the holidays. What equipment do you need to decorate painted rocks? Making and decorating painted rocks is relatively low-cost but you will need to invest in a few thing. We buy bags of smooth rocks from the garden centre.…

    Why you should create a New Year’s Time Capsule with your kids

    This time last year I sat down and thought about how I wanted to celebrate the New Year with my children. They love a reason to celebrate and over the last few years we’ve made lots of New Year crafts from New Year bells to a paper bell garland and little confetti boxes. On New Year’s Eve we usually have a nice family meal and play a board game – pretty low key but a lovely way to mark the end of a year. Just like last year I’ll be printing out the Printable New Year’s Resolution for Kids 2018 from…

    A ‘marvellous’ competition for truly marvellous children

    I know many of my readers love a creative competition so today I’m sharing a lovely one from Chipmunks and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. My children both adore the stories of Roald Dahl and we can’t wait to enter this ourselves! The hunt is on for the UK’s next, young literary superstar with the launch of a competition by children’s footwear retailer, Chipmunks and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. The two have joined forces to encourage children to get creative and celebrate the art of storytelling by coming up with their own tale about the charity’s mascot, Marvin the Marvellous…

    Siblings {August 2017}

    As a busy mama of two monkeys the Summer holidays have been a tad exhausting. My children have a lot of energy and a voracious appetite for fun! We have been having some amazing days out which have provided the perfect opportunity to take lots of photographs. The past month has been so much fun, and all the days out actually made for some great photographs. I can’t wait to update our photo wall with some of my favourites. Fortunately my children have been getting on really well. I love watching them play together and seek out each other. I took…

    Monday happy things {week 148}

    The first week of the summer holidays is over and we managed to pack in a pretty full week. My children spent 4 days at SuperCamp and had a brilliant time, making new friends, trying new sports and crafts. They had longer days than the school day but loved it although I didn’t really know what to do with myself. I spent my free time tidying the house as we have lots of visitors over the summer. It was quite a relief to be able to clean and change beds without the children around. I also enjoyed a cheeky lunch…

    Win a Splendiferous Summer With Mr Kipling

    Regular readers will know just how much we adore the world of Roald Dahl. My 7 year old has been working his way through his books so we were delighted to receive an invitation to afternoon tea at the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Great Missenden to hear more about the Splendiferous Summer With Mr Kipling. Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Great Missenden We’ve visited the Roald Dahl Museum before. It’s a wonderful place and a really interactive day out for families and fans of Roald Dahl. The children loved the galleries where they could find out…
