When I got home from work today there was a lovely package waiting for me from my swap partner in the Scrap Swap, organised by Belinda and Kate. Ellen, with the help of her daughters, sent me some gorgeous fabrics which I’m going to use in my next doll quilt.

A lovely parcel full of goodies was waiting for me when I got home this evening. My swap partner picked so many lovely things specially for me – ric rac, fabric, cute vintage patterns. Some books from Amazon finally arrived too, yep you guessed it, Bend the Rules Sewing and Denyse Schmidt Quilts. Plenty to read to get me through winter. Oh yes, and I finally figured out how to use the rotary cutter I bought off ebay months ago!

I have finally chosen the pattern I am going to make for the doll quilt swap. After my previous disastrous attempt I knew I wasn’t capable of making one without a little bit of help. So I bought a copy of Little Quilts which everyone seems to recommend and have chosen a lovely quilt which I hope my partner will like. We have spent all weekend doing little jobs around the house. Sometimes it feels like we live in a leaky ship. If you open a window a door will often slam shut somewhere else! So we have draught-proofed the…

I’ve been spending a lot online recently, due to working from home so much last week I think. Today a book and some craft supplies from ebay turned up, as well as my first etsy purchase from here. I think you’ll agree the fabric is lovely, almost too good to use. Oh, I think I’ve said that before! Anyway, it turned up addressed to my boyfriend so I hope I haven’t been spending his money… The other surprise to turn up this evening was a frog! I thought we had got rid of them all over our fence into the…

Today I travelled all the way to LLandudno and back to visit an office as part of my job. It took hours and hours to get there. So I spent as long on the train as I usually do at my desk! It was worth it though for the view from the train as we went round the north coast of Wales past Rhyl and Colwyn Bay. Here’s the butterfly I recently made from the Wee Wonderfuls patterncard, I used some precious Liberty fabric – I love the colours!

Here is a sneak preview of the fabrics that are currently winging their way across the atlantic to my swap partner, Ellen, at hurrayic. I have included a variety of old and new fabrics, and there’s a good selection of my favourite Cath Kidston fabrics. I hope she likes them all!

I couldn’t resist trying my hand at making another mini moopy this evening. My first attempt at the beginning of the year was ok but I wanted to see if I could make it on my vintage Singer sewing machine this time instead of hand stitching it all. I chose some lovely Liberty fabrics to contrast with the body colour. I think it’s cute!

It’s been a strange week since we’ve returned from our holiday. I’ve had to spend three days at home as we’ve had a garden makeover this week. So I’ve read more and crafted more. Today I made my first doll quilt and it was so much harder than I thought it would be! Don’t look too closely at the picture or else you’ll see all the mistakes. I used some of the vintage fabrics I picked up on holiday, as well as some favourite Cath Kidston ones. I think I need to be a bit more adventurous with my choice…

I had the good fortune to attend the launch of this years Open House at the new Olympic site in Stratford this evening. For as long as I’ve lived in London this has been my favourite weekend of the year. I’ve lost count of the amazing buildings I’ve had the opportunity to visit. My absolutely favourite so far has been the Midland Grand Hotel at St Pancras Station. For the past couple of years the weekend has ended up with a bottle of red wine at Gordon’s Wine Bar by Embankment Station followed by fireworks over the Thames as part…
