Eek, week 37 already! This morning consisted of a midwife appointment, a scan and a consultation with the doctor. Fortunately my placenta was fine, it wasn’t low lying at all so no danger of placenta praevia. Phew. But I wish we had asked for a second opinion at the time or just rung my midwife. Apparently it’s quite rare for the placenta to move and we could probably have saved ourselves some worry. However, the poor baby is still breech (and seems happy to stay that way!). According to the NCT, between 3–4% of babies are in the breech position…

Claire is hosting a fun swap to make a pincushion sent with a couple of small haberdashery style items. Make sure you sign up before the 14th March if you’re interested. I’ve already been planning what to make for my partner. We’ve had a fun weekend trying to get the house tidy in case of any news at our midwife and can appointments tomorrow. We went to John Lewis and finally ordered some fabric to be made (by my mum) into curtains for the nursery and ordered a tumble drier. We also went for lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe…

Today was my first day of maternity leave. I only worked two days this week and after our bad news on Tuesday I decided to finish work yesterday instead of today. But how to spend this in-between time? Baby not yet here but too tired to go anywhere or do anything. I decided to ebay some items I’ve had hanging around. So, if you have a burning desire to own some Orla Kiely or Cath Kidston items check out my auctions. Tonight we went to a waterbirth information session at hospital. I’ve been planning a waterbirth for so long that…

This afternoon I was booked in for another scan, I thought to check the growth of the baby. I had a lovely sonographer but her English wasn’t great. So when she said things such as ‘there’s a lot of fluid’ I asked for clarification. I was referred to the doctor who was eventually able to explain that the baby was breech and there was more amniotic fluid than expected (which is why I look bigger than I should). We agreed to try an ECV next week to try and turn the baby. The doctor then noticed that my scan showed…

Today was the second day of our NCT ante natal class. It was much better than last week and we discussed pain relief, how to wash a baby, how to change a baby’s nappy and how to put a baby to bed and how many layers to use. I especially liked the part where we split into two groups after lunch. We discussed what to pack in our hospital bags, leaking, cutting, tearing and whether we should purchase sieves and mirrors for childbirth, whilst the men discussed post natal depression. There was a great moment when one of the men…

I had my 36 week appointment with the midwife today. I wasn’t anticipating any problems and was looking forward to discussing my swollen feet which are giving me so much grief. All my tests results have come back completely normal, even the PLG and the extra growth scan I had in week 30. Today my blood pressure was really high and I’m booked in for another growth scan. The baby’s spine is also aligned with my spine so I have to do an exercise which involves getting down on all fours five times a day to try and turn it.…

I noticed some recent discussions about ante natal classes today so it seems like a good opportunity to think about the first NCT ante natal class we went to on Monday. We always wanted to attend the NCT classes. Some of our closest friends rave about the friends they met on the course they did in Southampton. They meet at least once a week for coffee, attend each others birthday parties and have been providing a rota of cooked meals for the families who are having their second children! So after our booking-in appointment at the local hospital we were…

A selection of my pregnancy books. I haven’t read them all yet but I’ve bought them because they’ve been recommended to me. My favourite is What to Expect When You’re Expecting as I like to read about weekly developments. I’ve just bought The Baby Diaries by Tess Daly which I’m hoping to read when I start my maternity leave soon. Friday was spent interviewing for my maternity cover. It was a strange experience but we were fortunate to have really good candidates to choose between. Our choice was between two competent people but it’s been left to me to decide.…

I have been fortunate enough to have cut my working days down to four since the beginning of the year. I’ve mainly been spending my free days relaxing on the sofa. Today the sun was shining so I took myself off to my local high street to finish buying the things I needed for my hospital bag. a new nightdress and dressing gown (cheap from Primark!) clothes to go home in maternity towels new pants (again, cheap from Primark!) new toiletries (so we’re not fighting over who takes the toothpaste!) flashy video camera (which was a Christmas present) green Hospital…
