Snowflake: Beautiful Christmas songs for you and your family

This year we’re very excited, ok, I’m very excited, as it’s bubba’s first Christmas. This means I get to go completely over the top with buying Christmas presents, putting the decorations up and generally getting into the Christmas spirit earlier than ever. So I was very happy to review Snowflake, the new CD from The Rainbow Collections.   Following the success of Lullaby, a children’s bedtime CD, and Toybox, a collection of nursery rhymes for playtime, the Rainbow Collections has released the final album in its trilogy – Snowflake. Snowflake brings to life traditional Christmas songs. The album includes 16…

Day Zero – Month Two (November)

Another month has gone by so time to look at my progress with Day Zero. I’ve lost my mojo a bit recently but I’m pleased to say I’ve had time to undertake some new projects. Sewing/craft projects I’ve learned how to make cushions with a bit of help from my mum so I’ve made cushions for my sister and my youngest niece for Christmas. I made Edward his first Advent calendar and a badge blanket, and made our Christmas cards. I’ve joined two Christmassy swaps too!   Cooking/baking Hmmmm, I made the sticky ginger cake again because it’s DELICIOUS – does…

    QuinnyCasters News #8

I failed miserably at the first QuinnyCasters assignment. My reporting of the opening and assembly of the Quinny Zapp Xtra failed to impress the judges and I didn’t win a prize. So I bought the Quinny footmuff from ebay which I love! It can be used on the Quinny and the Maxi-Cosi car seat so we’re able to use it all the time which is handy in this cold weather.  Brrrr. Anyway, the second assignment was to capture your child feeling happy in their Quinny. Hmmm. Edward only smiles and giggles when I’m blowing raspberries on his tummy or pulling…

    Little fingers

We were recently sent a BabyDan magnetic drawer/cupboard lock to review. I was really happy to try this as Edward is increasingly moving around and it won’t be long before we have to have a serious think about locks on cupboards and stair gates. The magnetic drawer/cupboard lock was simple to fit and can be screwed or stuck (both screws and an adhesive are provided) to your drawer or cupboard. The mechanism looks complicated but is actually really simple! It uses gravity to keep it locked and a magnet in the key to unlock it. We liked the way it…

    Separation anxiety

Right now I feel torn in two. Edward and I spend every day together but my husband has been in hospital since Tuesday evening for his planned stoma reversal surgery. We’ve been staying with my mum so she can look after Edward and I can visit my husband. It’s so hard leaving Edward in the morning, especially when my mum tells he spends the day looking for me! The NCT website has some really helpful advice on responding to separation anxiety. I know that at 8 months Edward can tell when I’m not around but has no concept of time…

    The mini Gingerbread House Kit

I love trying anything gingerbread – sewing or baking related! A while ago I bought The mini Gingerbread House Kit. I wanted to make cute little gingerbread houses but didn’t realise that the small scale might make it quite so difficult. One of the first problems was that the gingerbread spread whilst cooking so needed to be re-cut whilst cooling. Putting together the gingerbread house was quite difficult but I don’t think our runny icing helped 🙂 They were fun to make but quite fiddily and after putting them together we lost the will to decorate them as suggested. Next…

    When only organic will do

HiPP Organic recently carried out a nationwide survey to gain the views of the modern day mum. I could relate to some of their findings: 25% of pregnant women claimed to have had no cravings during pregnancy the 2nd trimester is the favourite stage of pregnancy for 63% of HiPP Mums 67% of HiPP mums felt that weaning their baby was fun, exciting or delightful I’ve tried and failed to make food that Edward will eat. I was really excited at the thought of weaning but underestimated how difficult it would be to get Edward to eat the food I…

    Flip Ultra HD video review

Today I returned the Flip Ultra we were sent to review and I thought I would take the opportunity to blog what we thought of it. I really enjoyed using the Flip Ultra as it was so easy to use by me, my husband, and extended family. We were surprised by the quality of the videos considering the small size of the Flip Ultra although the quality noticeably degrades when using the digital zoom. The sound quality is good and we loved that the USB was internal. We thought that the plastic screen could be scratched quite easily but it…

    Bath time

Edward still *just* fits in his baby bath but I don’t think we’ll be using it for much longer. I couldn’t resist this little video that daddy took of Edward enjoying himself this evening. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj-qCouA7Rc&fs=1&hl=en_US] We will be returning the Flip Ultra tomorrow. We’ve had a lot of fun using it and got some great videos to keep. We’ll be posting our thoughts on it tomorrow.
