Flashback Friday – Raisin Weekend 1995

Last night I was having a look through my old photos (so old they’ve been scanned into iPhoto) and came across one which I wanted to share. That’s me in the middle when I was much much younger. It was taken whilst I was at the University of St Andrews where I spent five happy years. One of the odder traditions was the concept of an academic family where a first year was adopted by an academic mother and academic father (usually in their third or fourth year). Like most traditions it’s historic meaning has been lost and now it’s…

Day Zero – Month Four (February)

Eek, just where is the time going?! I’ve managed to tick a few things off my list over the last few weeks. I have participated in a couple of fun swaps Finished Edward’s dinosaur blanket for his first birthday Started driving lessons and I’m actually enjoying them so who knows, I might even actually book my test in the next month or two. Which leads me on nicely to the fact I booked my theory test for the end of the month Been geocaching whilst out and about Tried new recipes (mainly for Edward’s benefit) Made a new friend and…

    Land of Golden Sleep

We’re really fortunate that Edward is a good sleeper. However, not everyone baby is a good sleeper and the latest Pampers campaign may be of interest. As part of the launch of the new Baby-Dry nappy, Pampers have just launched the Land of Golden Sleep where mums can find helpful hints and tips to help their little ones fall asleep! Apparently while your baby sleeps they can wee up to 12 times a night! Until now the link between weeing and baby’s sleep has not been fully understood. However, the results of new research, pioneered by Pampers, offers exciting findings.…

    Adventures in weaning

When Edward reached 10 months he’s suddenly became really adventurous with food. Although we still use the odd jar and pouch we’ve had some success with finger foods and food I’ve made. It’s fair to say he enjoys his food (like his mum and dad!). Today for example he had baby muesli, a small marmite sandwich, grapes and apple pieces and a small piece of toast for breakfast. This was followed by a 240ml bottle of milk. Mid-morning snack of a jam tart and chocolate cake (normally we have healthy snacks!) Lunch was a jar of Organix pasta chicken followed…

    Another scrappy swap

I’m trying to collect a range of fabrics so I don’t just have Cath Kidston fabrics. With this is mind I recently signed up for a Scrappy Fabric swap over at Very Berry Handmade. I sent off  a pack of scraps to my partner Nikki (which I hope she liked) and received a little parcel from Teresa at A Time for Stitching. I love getting mail and this packet was no exception as it was stuffed full of lovely fabrics. Teresa also included some vintage buttons which will be great for my stash. My next project is a mug rug…

    Listography: Books and Babies

Books and babies is the theme for this weeks’ Listography over at Kate Takes 5. I love to read and I really want Edward to enjoy it too. We have books all over the house and keep a box of his books in the lounge so he can pull them out and look through them any time of the day. The first book I bought for him was Faces (Baby’s Very First Book).  It’s a simple cloth book with high-contrast images, crinkly pages and a mirror, designed to stimulate baby’s senses. Edward loved looking at this and we used it…

    New shoes

Edward was lucky to be sent some lovely Pre Shoes to try. Edward loves them and has worn them every day since they arrived because they stay on his feet! At 11 months Edward has as many pairs of shoes as I do but he’s worn very few on them more than once, usually because they don’t stay on his feet. The pre shoes however are a firm favourite. Most importantly they are comfortable. They are made of soft leather with an anti-slip suede sole. Secondly they stay on. They are a simple slip on (hooray, no laces or buckles)…

    Bedtime Routines

When I saw Emma‘s call for posts for her Bedtime Routines Carnival I thought it was a great opportunity to write down my experiences with Edward. As an expectant mum I went out and bought all the books I could find, including Gina Ford’s Contented Little Baby. People seem to either love or hate her ideas but several of our friends swore by it so we thought we’d see what all the fuss was about. We pretty much discarded all of the advice within a week or two of Edward arriving. It was difficult (and in hindsight hilarious!) to try…

    Vintage fuzzy felt

This is the first time I have joined in with Magpie Monday. I’m addicted to charity shops and have some lovely vintage finds dotted around our house. Unfortunately there are only a few charity shops where we live and I have to wait until I visit my family in other parts of the country to get my fix! Vintage fuzzy felts My most recent favourite find was this vintage fuzzy felt! I adored fuzzy felt when I was younger and had a couple of boxes stashed at my grandparents house to play with. I picked up this set for the…
