I’m looking forward to celebrating (is that the right word?) my first Mothers’ Day on Sunday. In honour of the day I thought I’d post a pic of me with my mum. I think the photograph was taken on the day of my Christening in 1977/78. I still have the little outfit I’m wearing but I’m glad I haven’t seen the hideous coat and hat my mum is wearing in a long time. I would love to have Edward christened at the church we got married in some day. I think we’ve left it a little late as I could…

So many reasons to be cheerful this week: 1. Edward is better and back to his normal self. We’ve experienced our first bout of sickness and diarrhoea which was unpleasant. I’ve never done so much washing in Edward’s short life! Fortunately he’s fine and he’s eating home cooked food and sleeping well again. Phew. 2. One of my worries about giving up work was if I could stimulate Edward more than if he attended nursery. I’ve drawn up a list of local activities so there’s always something we can go out and do. I also made some new…

It’s time to write an update on my Day Zero progress. 7. Decide whether to return to work or not Well first I decided to return, then I changed my mind. You can read the whole sorry story. 38. Do at least one geocache a month We’ve been having loads of fun out and about now the weather is getting warmer. We found a couple in Bruges as well as London and Essex. 59. Successfully grow herbs We’re also spending more time in the garden and the herbs I planted last year are well established and living!…

This months’ effort was made for a swap to make a Mug Rug. If you haven’t heard of these before they’re basically a small quilt which you can use for your tea and biscuits. They’re a great project if you’re new to quilting and can be completed in under an hour. I used this great tutorial from Contented and love my little mug rug. I was very sad to send it on it’s way across the Atlantic. I have to admit I struggled with the binding but it was a lovely little project to make.

When we were preparing for the arrival of our new baby we shopped around for beautiful things that would keep him warm, comfortable and look good. We ended up with a selection of blankets, which all offered something a little bit different. We were recently sent a blanket to review and we have been using it over the last week or two, we even took it on holiday with us. As you can see Edward loves it and has been carrying it around with him and snuggling up with it whenever he can. The blanket has been through the washing…

Edward has been sleeping really badly lately. He goes to bed easily at 7pm but will often wake between 1 and 5am. He hasn’t had night feeds for months but occasionally will drop his dummy which needs popping back in or a dose of medicine if he’s teething. However the last few months he’s woken for no apparent reason. The lack of sleep makes us all grumpy and sometimes I have to beg my husband to get up in the night as I’m just too tired. Last week Edward woke up at 5.30am twice and wouldn’t go back to sleep…

I love this week’s theme for The Gallery: Hair! I’ve changed my hairstyle nearly as often as I’ve changed my socks. I’ve had asymmetrical, short, long, fringe, no fringe. I remember at Middle School I used so much hair spray I got told off by the school nit nurse. Fortunately most of my photos are stored in my mum’s loft. Apart from this beauty of me and my sister in the late 1980s. My sister (on the right) was desperate for a perm which my mum did – I think it fell out within a week. I actually like my…

I expect my local highstreet looks much like yours, same old supermarkets and pound shops with the odd Boots and WHSmith thrown in for good measure. It makes shopping slightly boring. However, Wood Green has one good shop that is all our own – The Big Green Bookshop – an independent bookshop that aims to inject some life, culture and uniqueness back into our high street, or High Road if you’re being picky. The Big Green Bookshop was opened in 2008 after the only bookshop in Wood Green, Waterstones, closed down. I’ve loved following the process of setting up the…
