Need help with weaning? Plum can help!

Back in June, organic baby food brand, Plum, ran a competition to win a sought after place at the first ever Plum Cookery School. Five lucky mums were invited down to Buckinghamshire where the Cookery School opened its doors to reveal some of the tasty secrets behind Plum’s recipes and offered expert advice to support parents through the weaning process. The cookery school was made extra exciting with two special guests, celebrity chef Rachel Allen and child nutrition expert, Beverley Glock, who were both absolutely fabulous as you will see in the new weaning videos. Plum’s new weaning videos are…

    A rainbow of hexagons

Life has been chugging on as usual except for some very exciting days out. Over the last few weeks we’ve had fun at the Rainbow Park on the Southbank, a Day out with Thomas, a Christening, watching the Torch Relay and a trip to Legoland. We’re all feeling quite tired and we still have a trip to the Olympics to look forward to at the weekend. The children are great (despite runny noses and bottoms). The toddler has been weaned off his dummy surprisingly easily. One night we said his dummy wouldn’t be around the next day, the next day…

    Mini Victoria sandwich

I had a definite fancy for Victoria sandwich today, so- called because Queen Victoria favoured a slice with her afternoon tea. I really wanted to make miniature sponges though as they look so delicious and you get to eat a whole sponge yourself without being too greedy! For the cake I used: 200g caster sugar 200g softened butter 4 eggs , beaten 200g self-raising flour 1 tsp baking powder 2 tbsp milk The finished cake batter was generously spooned into muffin cases, baked and left to cool. When cool, each cake was sliced in half, one half spread in buttercream…

Are we crazy to take our children to the Olympics?

We booked our Olympic tickets when I was pregnant knowing we would be taking a toddler and a baby to the Olympics. We heard lots of conflicting reports that babies wouldn’t be allowed, prams would be prohibited, and as we didn’t want to carry the baby in a sling we’ve now arranged for her to be looked after by nanny. Over the last few days we found out you can take a pram and there will be a pram park, and we can also take some food for the toddler. I hope there are baby changing facilities too. I really…

    Wood Green charity shops

We’ve lived in Wood Green in north London for the last 6 years but have only visited the handful of charity shops a couple of times. However, last week we popped into Oxfam and were rewarded with a haul! First up were two new-to-us Thomas the Tank Engine DVDs. There was no way the toddler could not have these so we snapped them up. As I was paying I noticed a big bag of Brio by the counter. The toddler just loves his trains and already has a good Brio collection so we bought this too! You can never have…

    A busy summer holiday

I’m quite pleased we seem to be surviving the school holidays <touch wood>. The weather hasn’t been too bad and we’ve had lots to do. We had a great Day out with Thomas, the Christening, trip to Legoland and I’m trying to keep the toddler busy with some structured activities and lots of free time to play. As well as our usual baking, crafts and trips to the local park, he’s spent hours playing with trains, Lego, the sand pit and water table. We’ve signed up to some music classes which start next week. It’s an activity which both children…

    Thomas the Tank Engine cupcakes

I looked at my toddler the other day and realised he was dressed head to foot in Thomas clothes – hat, jumper, tshirt, shorts, socks <sigh>. I love him to bits but his Thomas obsession is everywhere! Fortunately for him we were sent some brilliant sugarettes from JustBake who sell all kinds of cupcake decorations, featuring the little blue engine and two of his friends to use at our next baking session. Hard to believe right now but last week it was raining so we got out the measuring bowl and got baking. We made some simple fairy cakes (using…

    Thomas Steam ‘n Speed

The other week I was asked if the toddler liked Thomas. Only the biggest Thomas fan in Paisley Road, I answered. A couple of days later this turned up. Fisher Price very kindly sent him the new R/C Thomas Steam ‘n Speed with real working steam! It wasn’t too difficult to get out of the packaging, just a couple of fancy plastic ties, which was good as the toddler was sooo excited when he saw it. He won’t say Thomas but “TT” so there was lots of shouting and I had no option but to get it out of the…
