How to make the Troublesome Trucks

My toddler is Thomas the Tank Engine mad. He also likes making things so I thought we could combine the two. On a recent day out we saw the Troublesome Trucks and thought it would be fun to make them ourselves. We used some mini cereral boxes, which we painted grey. You can see I was really lazy and turned the boxes inside out as the paint wouldn’t stick to the shiny side of the cardboard. You could also cover boxes in grey paper, dependant on how impatient your toddler is. We then went through old issues of Thomas the…

    Fun with Cravendale’s Epic Straws

This week we have been experimenting with Cravendale’s Epic Straws, kindly sent to us by BritMums. Daddy and the toddler have really enjoyed playing with them and made lots of really cool things from the different straws, curves, coils and loops, turning the act of drinking the wholesome white stuff into creative fun. Daddy is quite logical so first they built a simple structure. The only problem was that the toddler kept drinking. First milk, then he wanted to put the straw into his juice bottle, which he drained and asked for it to be filled up. We didn’t really…

Back to Best Weight Loss Challenge

When I saw a new challenge on BritMums, to lose weight with Weight Watchers, I knew I had to apply. Two babies in two and a half years has left me with a body I don’t like. I’m not vain but I want to look good for myself, my husband and children. I also want to wear nicer clothes and be healthier. My biggest challenge is to carry on baking but making it as healthy as possible! Starting tomorrow and for the next 3 months I will be participating in the Weight Watchers weight loss programme using the ProPoints system…

Baking with the toddler (National Cupcake Week)

This week I have been on a bit of a roll, making home-made tomato soup as well as apple and blackberry crumble, thanks to our trip to the Pick Your Own farm at the weekend. A couple of weeks ago I picked up some Stork Easy to Mix Baking Liquid at the supermarket. I love trying new products but it has sat in the fridge for a good few weeks, with me lacking baking inspiration. This week is National Cupcake Week however, the perfect time to fill the cake tin, which everyone enjoys in our house! There are some handy…

    Fabric alphabet for little fingers

It’s that time of the month, the PinAddicts Pinterest Challenge. The idea is to choose something from your Pinterest boards to create and link up each month. Fabric alphabet for little fingers This month I was totally inspired to make this colourful fabric alphabet by Chez Beeper Bebe. I love reading her blog and she has some lovely free tutorials. I thought I would make a version for our fridge which is covered in magnets. I wanted to use a rainbow of colours so chose a range of fabrics from my stash. I then cut out the letters and pinned them…

Share your pregnancy tips and win with Bio-Oil

I’ve been having a real clear out this weekend. The pregnancy books, maternity clothes and tiny baby clothes are all bagged up for our nearest charity shop. I’m not sure if we’ll be adding to our little tribe but we can’t store many things in our little house. Bio-Oil has recently launched a new pregnancy tab on their Facebook page for mums to share their best pregnancy tips with mums-to-be. The idea is that over time it will become a hub of really useful information. Bio-Oil have also printed a collection of tips from Mumsnetters across the UK in the…

    The Simple Things

I was stupidly excited when I heard the people behind Mollie Makes were bringing out a new magazine called The Simple Things. I’ve decided that I need my monthly fix of craft eye candy, even if I’ve never made any of the cover gifts, to keep me sane. The idea behind The Simple Things is to embrace a simple life. This is what I need. My life is cluttered, my brain is cluttered, my house is cluttered. I picked up a copy, read through it and knew what we would be doing today. An article about picking fruit really struck a…

    Food allergies in children

Last week we were invited to a breakfast briefing to discover more about children and food allergies and why early detection can make a huge difference to a child’s well being at school. Now I know my children aren’t at school but I’m always happy to learn about things which might affect their health. Food allergies in children Dr. Hilary Jones, one of the country’s top allergy experts, told us about a new report released by the EAACI (European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology) which has shown that life threatening allergic reactions in children increased 7-fold in the last…
