    On my mantle – March

My Mantle is looking a little pared back this month, completely by design. We’ve had Mother’s Day and two birthdays which has meant lots of new toys around the house. I love having a little space to curate and with Spring in the air I’m definitely channelling Spring indoors too. Earlier this month I made a really easy DIY Pom pom tree. It was so simple but pretty and we’ve all enjoyed looking at it. It was looking a little squished in the glass jar so I moved it to my Orla Kiely vase and it has really spread out…

    Monday happy things

Yesterday we spent the day at Wendover Forest with some friends. We had fun exploring the new Superworm Trail, enjoyed den building and our first picnic of the year (outside of the car!). I love the new print of Alexandra Palace by Georgina Westley I received for my birthday. We used to live near Ally Pally and I could see it every day. I’ve been making some Scrabble tile art for my dish washer – Clean/Dirty Scrabble dishwasher magnets – a tutorial will follow soon. I was sent an ActiviTea portable tea flask to review and it came with us…

    Homemade cookies for cats

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CollectiveBias I often make handmade gifts for members of my family. I’ve made teacup candles, cushions and blankets. Today I’m making something a little different but just as fun – homemade cookies for cats from Hill’s dry pet food. We’ve only ever fed our cats Hill’s (it gives them super glossy coats!) so I thought it would be great to make some shaped cookie treats with my children for them. Ingredients needed to make homemade cookies for cats: 2 cups of Hill’s dry…

Our Easter Egg Hunt Easter bonnet

This is the second year we’ve decorated an Easter bonnet. My daughter takes part in a fun Easter parade at her nursery, they all wear their decorated hats and do a little catwalk show. The shops are full of ribbons, little chicks, pastel shades of tissue paper and Easter bonnets. I thought I would get both of my children involved in decorating and we gathered a great haul from The Works. How to make an Easter Egg Hunt Easter bonnet The Works’ Easter crafting range includes bonnets, chicks, tissue paper, rabbit stickers, seasonal ribbons, hanging Easter decorations and much more…

    Thomas & Friends Rattling Railsss

The other day I mentioned that this year is Thomas & Friends 70th Birthday! I pulled together some our favourite Thomas & Friends crafts so do pop over and take a look if you are looking for some crafty inspiration. Based on stories of the railways, Thomas & Friends invites children to enter a world of imagination on the island of Sodor. It’s an idealised world created by the Reverend W. Awdry, where trains are powered by steam – and they talk! With a strong community ethos, typified by a universal willingness to help, practice good manners and hard work,…

    10 Sylvanian Families crafts

My 3 year old has fallen in love with Sylvanian Families, just as I did when I was her age. First made in 1985, Sylvanian Families is an adorable range of distinctive animal characters set to turn #30yearsyoung today (20th March 2015). I love to bring crafts into our play and when I saw an egg box boat craft in the latest issue of prima makes I knew we should make it. It only took 10 minutes and kept my 3 year old occupied for an afternoon. We used the bottom of an egg box as a boat, added a knitting…

    Play dough hot cross buns

Home made play dough is so easy to make and I like the fact I know exactly what’s in it. The other day I made some play dough for my children so they could make some play dough Hot Cross buns. Hot Cross buns are a traditional Easter treat (although they seem to be available in the shops earlier each year!). They are a spiced sweet bun made with currants and marked with a cross on the top. Recipe for home made play dough: 150g plain flour 100g salt 2 tsp. cream of tartar 2 tbsp. vegetable oil 180ml water…
