Royal Mail is celebrating one of the nation’s best-loved children’s authors, Roald Dahl, with its first stamp issue of 2012. The stamps themselves recreate the magic of the Dahl books, using the beautiful illustrations of Quentin Blake. Disclosure – post in collaboration with Very As an avid book reader I knew I always wanted my kids to love reading too. My husband is not a reader and although he loves watching films, he’s just never been the kind of person to lose himself in a book. Reading has always been a passion, I loved my trips to our local library with my Dad, and looked forward to my birthday or Christmas when I always received more books to devour. Reading is powerful. Not only does it stretch your vocabulary it also helps stretch your imagination. Fact or…

My 9 year old loves to be in the kitchen. She recently asked to make something and with Roald Dahl Day coming up next month we decided to make something inspired by one of his stories. Everyone knows The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me and we loved the sound of yummy Nishnobblers (from Roald Dahl’s Completely Revolting Recipes!). “there were Nishnobblers and Gumglotters and Blue Bubblers and Sherbert Slurpers and Tongue Rakers, and as well as all this, there was a whole lot of splendid stuff from the great Wonka factory itself” Ingredients: 100g dark chocolate 100g white cooking…

Winter adventures seem a little slim on the ground at the moment. With so many events cancelled this year and everything else booked up we feel a little limited with our outdoor winter adventures. Thankfully we managed to get tickets to Hughenden Manor, one of our favourite National Trust days out, where we were able to explore the delightful Peter Rabbit Trail. Peter Rabbit winter adventure activity trail If you are looking for something fun to do outdoors with the kids then the good news is Peter Rabbit Trails are available at many National Trust properties this winter. You will…

With a little over a week until Christmas we have bought the Christmas edition of the Radio Times. This is one of our Christmas traditions. Is there anyone who doesn’t love to see what they can watch with the family over the Christmas holidays? BBC One and Magic Light Pictures recently announced that an animated adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Zog is set for BBC One this Christmas. This follows the success of The Highway Rat’s Christmas premiere in 2017, voiced by David Tennant and Rob Brydon amongst other stars. Previous Magic Light productions include The Gruffalo, Stick…

I have been busy trying to find suitable stocking fillers for my children this week. I love putting the Christmas stockings together but we have really large ones which need lots of little things! I have finished my husband’s one thanks to a recent collaboration and don’t forget to pop over for your chance to win the same items. Both my children love stationery so it’s pretty easy to find them something they will like. I really like to try and find presents that are useful and follow the ‘something you want, something you need, something to wear and something…
