I am really enjoying embroidery at the moment. It’s the perfect hobby to pick up when you have spare 5 minutes and I love having all my colourful hoops on display. I’ve been Pinning all kinds of embroidery for inspiration and recently came across Organza Hoop Art on NetGalley – thanks for the review copy!
What is organza?
According to Wikipedia organza is a thin, plain weave, sheer fabric traditionally made from silk. Many modern organzas are woven with synthetic filament fibres such as polyester or nylon.
Organza Hoop Art
Organza Hoop Art: Embroidery Techniques and Projects for Sheer Stitching by Sarah Godfrey. Add a wow factor to your embroidery and discover fresh, eye-catching embroidery designs! Using sheer fabric and a few adjustments to basic embroidery techniques, author Sarah Godfrey’s approach is beginner-friendly so anyone can accomplish this exciting embroidery style.
The book is divided into 3 chapters with over 10 projects and a thread colour conversion chart. It’s a really gorgeous book to read and the projects are colourful and inspiring. The author gives a thorough introduction to the subject, going through all the tools and materials you will need and includes tips she has picked up on the way. I also enjoyed the chapter featuring the most common embroidery stitches, some of which were new to me. The stitches are illustrated with clear photos which I found really useful.
The projects range from ladybugs to goldfish, toadstools to cactus and flower. The organza gives an amazing background to the embroidery and really helps them to stand out. Each pattern is laid out with the supplies you need as well as the stitches required. This is a great way to ensure you have all the materials you need as well as the necessary skills (you can refer back to Chapter 2 if you need help!). Then you can work your way through each step to create something beautiful!
My favourite project has to be the pretty floral wreath featuring four different flowers. I’m wondering if I can add this to my embroidery wish list, as you can never really have too many embroidery projects!
Organza Hoop Art: Embroidery Techniques and Projects for Sheer Stitching by Sarah Godfrey is published on the 1st July. It is available from all good bookshops.
