Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things

Happy Monday everyone. Hope you had a great weekend and are enjoying the start of the school summer holidays. The weather has been lovely all week (again!) – I’m actually getting a little bored of saying that 🙂 Each week I start off by writing my Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things blog post. It’s a great chance to reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures – it’s a post I always enjoy writing.

Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things

I’m really excited for the start of the school holidays. I’ve also finished work for 6 weeks so I’m happy to be able to spend time with my children. My job finished early so I was able to pick them both up from school and take them out for dinner to celebrate.

Last week both my children passed their karate grading. They’ve been going for a few years now and work hard outside of their lessons and were rewarded with new belts!

We are a family which loves to read so we’re already on the Second Week of Summer Reading Challenge. Have you heard of this? It’s a free challenge to encourage children to keep reading over the school holidays. We’ve taken part over the last few years and it really does help to prevent the dreaded summer slide and loss of learning. The theme is Mischief Makers and centres around Dennis the Menace and the Beano (which celebrates it 80th anniversary this year). It was a great excuse to buy a copy of The Beano and introduce my children to the characters in it.

On Saturday we ventured into London to visit Greenwich and the Cutty Sark. I love the feel of Greenwich which has a lovely village feel to it. It was another hot day but we loved exploring the Cutty Sark and the beautiful Greenwich Market. If you’re looking for something to do during the school holidays I would definitely recommend a trip there. You can read more about our day out at the Cutty Sark here.

fruit picking

Yesterday we visited a local Pick Your Own farm. This is something I’ve wanted to do with the children for ages and we finally had some free time. It was another hot day but we managed to pick two boxes of strawberries, some raspberries and sweetcorn. We roasted the sweetcorn on the barbecue and it tasted delicious.

Have a great week and enjoy the sunshine!

They must be glad to have finished – my son finishes tomorrow. I think we’d like to go fruit picking this holiday too.

I hope the school holidays will treat you well! I love picking my own strawberries and a fab activity to do with children.
