Monday Happy List – week 98

cold cooking with kids

The summer holidays are going so quickly and I think we’re all enjoying the slower pace of life. Although I’ve been ferrying them around I’m happy there are no after school clubs or evening activities to go to. With my free time I’ve been de-cluttering, eBaying, charity shopping and doing some of those niggling jobs I’ve been meaning to do for months. Who knew August would be a much-needed month of tidying and sorting.

Kids had a great time at the summer holiday workshop they went to every morning. After 2 weeks of early starts I’m looking forward to a slightly relaxed summer holiday from now on. They did a mixture of crafts, cold cooking and even a little fashion show which was fun.

The kids both got new bikes. They’ve grown so much this year that they both needed them and we bit the bullet and bought two. We’ve already been out on them and you can probably see why my 4 year old loved her bike – handlebar streamers, spokies and a teddy carrier!

With the kids occupied I’ve had plenty of time for sewing, painting and even a spot of baking which has been amazing. I nipped into Hobbycraft to pick up some supplies at the end of the week so can’t wait to make show some of my makes. I’m joining in with a new seasonal stitching club from Wild Olive called Around the House Stitching Club. I receive a weekly email with a new pattern and I find this is a great way to keep creative.

Yesterday we finally got round to seeing Finding Dory at the cinema and it was every bit as good as I hoped. The kids enjoyed it too and then we went for a yummy lunch at Wagamama. This is my favourite kind of lazy Sunday.

We’ve started planning our new kitchen which isn’t terribly exciting but is necessary. Our kitchen units are falling apart, the ceiling needs re-plastering and the walls need re-painting. I think we’re going to go for a new kitchen and have a few appointments to plan this. I hate the upheaval of big DIY projects but it would be amazing to improve our kitchen storage and have an up to date kitchen. I’m trying to swing a Belfast sink which is something I’ve always wanted, as well as some Orla Kiely tiles or splashback for a pop of colour. I’ll keep you posted on our progress.
