Getting the most from a scooter {tips and tricks from Halfords}

Posted on August 16, 2016September 27, 2017 by jenny

There’s something about long summer days that makes us all want to be outside as much as possible. We’ve had some lovely weather lately, packed up a picnic and gone out for the day. At the beginning of the school holidays we popped down to Halfords and bought both children lovely new bikes. They’ve been out on these quite a lot but their scooters haven’t been forgotten.

As we live so close to school the kids scoot to school every day. They love their scooters and it’s always easy to identify them. My 4 year old has customised hers with rubber bands, a basket and handlebar streamers. My 6 year olds’ is the same, covered with rubber bands and streamers. The scooter park is always full at school, scooters are great for kids! Scooters are so simple but make the school run easier. They mean kids move quicker, have fun, exercise and improve their fine motor skills – and definitely seem to encourage reluctant children to school.

Scooters aren’t just for the school run however. Halfords have put together a handy guide of tips and tricks to help you get the most from your scooter. We love our local skate park and the children have been trying out some of the ramps but the guide shows you don’t need a skate park to have fun. There are all sorts of tricks, from the Hippy Jump to the Pop Up Wheelie, Pogo, Bunny Hop, X-Up and Grind. Some you can do on a normal school-run type of scooter but there are stunt scooters and 3 wheel types, something for all ages and abilities.

My 6 year old enjoyed reading the guide and trying out some of the tricks to impress his mates when he goes back to school in September. If you’re attempting some of the trickier manoeuvres then don’t forget to be safe with a helmet, knee and elbow pads and gloves too!

    These look so finger friendly compared to the metal ones and more fun.
    I bet it wont be long before my daughter asks for one.
