I’ve followed Michael Rosen for quite a long time on Facebook. I’m sure that all parents, and non-parents, will have heard of him. He’s one of the best-loved figures in the children’s book world, renowned for his work as a poet, performer, broadcaster and educational campaigner. We’ve been huge fans of his fiction books for children, which include We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Chocolate Cake.
About Michael Rosen
He was Children’s Laureate from 2007-2009 and is currently Professor of Children’s Literature at Goldsmiths University of London. He’s written books for adults, books to help people write poems, and even a memoir. Michael Rosen’s Book of Play: Why play really matters, and 101 ways to get more of it in your life by Michael Rosen is published this month and is all about the importance of play.

Today, we don’t get nearly enough play in our lives. At school, kids are drilled on exams, while at home we’re all glued to our phones and screens. The Book of Play shows us how to put this right – and why it matters so much for creativity, resilience and more.
Packed with silliness, activities and prompts for creative indoor and outdoor play for all ages – with specially illustrated pages for everything from doodling to work play and after-dinner games.
Michael Rosen’s Book of Play was commissioned in response to the exhibition Play Well, curated by Shamita Sharmacharja at Wellcome Collection, opening on 24th October 2019.
