Easter Kids crafts tutorial

Kids crafts – painting using food

painting using food - the gingerbread house

I love to keep my little one busy and today we tried something new, painting using food!

Equipment needed to paint with food:
Potatoes
White paper
Easter themed cookie cutters
Paint

How to paint with food:

We’ve tried painting with lots of different materials, from flowers to corks and hands. Today we used potatoes which was really fun and messy. As Easter is coming up we decided to use Easter cookie cutters and picked an Easter egg and bunny shape.

painting with foodI set up for my 3 year old with white paper, a couple of paint brushes, the potato shapes and let her pick her favourite paint colours.

painting with foodI let her paint however she liked.

painting with foodAt first she carefully chose one colour at a time. Pressing the potato down so you could see the painted shapes on the paper.

painting with food We decided to make Easter cards and she covered the white paper in pictures.

painting with foodMy 5 year old tried it when he was back from school too.

painting with foodAfter the paint had dried we wrote Easter messages ready to send to our family. The children really enjoyed painting using food.

Ahhh I haven’t done potato stamping for about 20 years!! Love the idea of using cookie cutters to make perfect shapes 🙂

It is so much easier than trying to cut with a small knife, I always end up cutting myself!
