How to hold an Emoji birthday party

How to hold an Emoji birthday party

I’m not quite sure how my son discovered emoji’s but he has fully embraced it. Maybe it’s a boy thing, maybe it’s because he just turned 7. But it seemed like a great theme for his birthday.

He first discovered them through playing on my iPhone, surprisingly they were only in the last few years added. They are part of our everyday lives, I’m definitely guilty of adding them to all my tweets, texts and WhatsApp messages, it’s not really surprising that my children have picked up on them too. Both my children love to use WhatsApp to send messages and they fell in love with all the different emoji’s.

Anyway, I thought it would be a fun theme for my 7 year old’s party so I’m going to share a few things I found to hold an Emoji birthday party.

How to hold an Emoji birthday

Most important are the room decorations. This year we held a party at home but I knew my son would want some decorations. I ordered a couple of large banners which said ‘Happy Birthday’ along with the poo emoji. I found this os eBay for an amazing price and have used the same company a few times for similar birthday banners. I also filled the room with helium and normal balloons.

I found two types of edible cupcake toppers. One set was decorated with the poo emoji – can you tell my son loves this one! I also ordered some personalised cupcake toppers with my son’s name and age on. One of these went into the party bag but we also made enough for everyone to enjoy one at the party. Just search eBay for emoji cupcake topper and you will find loads.

I bought an emoji party pack, again from eBay, which contained matching napkins, a plastic tablecloth, paper plates and paper cups napkins. We used these for the party and I was so glad  I could just throw everything away when everyone had gone home.

I love Pinterest and found lots of free Printables. I printed out some emoji phrases to decorate the table and there were loads more if you’re looking for photobooth props, to decorate party bags or label food.

I wrapped a lot of the birthday presents in emoji wrapping paper but I didn’t buy nearly enough. I can’t remember where I bought it from as I did quite a lot of shopping in the run up to my son’s birthday. My 7 year old received a few emoji themed presents. These included a really fun 100 piece emoji puzzle from Ravensburger which I found on Amazon. We’ve already made it and it wasn’t too difficult despite all the hundreds of different ’emoji’s’ which were squeezed into it.

As well as the emoji puzzle I wrapped up a large emoji lollypop (from The Works) and a plush emoji key ring for his school bag (from Primark).

The final thing I put together were the party bags for our guests to take home. I actually quite liked doing this but it took me a while to find everything. As a stay at home mum I have some free time to look round the shops without my children constantly asking for things. On one such trip I managed to find a cute emoji stationery set containing a ruler, pencil, rubber and pencil sharpener (from The Works). I also picked up a couple of packs of emoji sticky notes and emoji rubbers, these both came in multipacks, which I simply divided up (also from The Works).

I made up sweet cones which always make good party bag fillers. I used cellophane cones which I bought from eBay and filled them with multipacks of sweets. These included boxes of emoji Candy Sticks which I found in Poundland.

The final item in the goody bags were a little bag of 6 emoji rubber balls which I bought in Tiger Stores. Everything went into plain paper bags from Baker Ross, and I made Thank You notes which matched the invitations, which were stuck to the front.
