One of the decorations I love to get out each year is a sweet hanging Christmas tree we made a couple of years ago from some off cuts. I can’t believe I’ve never got round to blogging about it as I love it.
Hanging Christmas tree ornament
It’s actually been up for the whole past year. This could mean I am lazy about putting away Christmas decorations or it fits right in and looks good all year round. It was hidden in a corner of the dining room so I thought this year I would give it a festive makeover.
You can see that it’s made from some twigs and driftwood and thin discs of wood. I lightly sanded each piece and drilled a hole through so I could thread it and hang it up.
Yesterday I took it apart and painted the twigs in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Antibes Green and Emperor’s Silk. I only gave each piece one coat as I didn’t want it to look too perfect.
Once it had dried it re-threaded it and it was finished. You could paint the twigs and discs any way you like, I think white and silver would look pretty for a winter decoration.
My little tree measures about 30cm tall but I can see myself making some more of these little decorations in different sizes.
Pin for later!
