It doesn’t feel like we’ve made too many winter crafts this year. With a few days before Christmas though the children just want to make things which suits me. Everything is done and ready so that’s pretty much all I want to do too. We all love to watch the birds in our garden, especially a very friendly little robin, who inspired our handprint robins.

My daughter loves using her hands to make art. Handprint art is fun and I love watching her cover herself in paint every time! for this craft activity we used brown and red paint, white card, and coloured pens.

My daughter is pretty capable of covering her own hands now. She painted her hand with the brown paint, leaving a small part of her hand beneath her thumb for the red paint.

She carefully placed her hand onto the sheet of card, gently pressing it down to make sure her whole hand touched the card. A handprint makes a perfect bird shape.

When the robin handprints were dry my daughter added in a beak, eyes and little legs with coloured pens.

She made quite a few sheets of hand print robins, they all ended up looking a little different. On one sheet she added branches for the robins to stand on which looked really cute.

This is such a cute idea- we are always looking for fun new creative projects to make around the house with the kids and you can cherish the hand prints forever.
