Hackney City Farm {and Farmerama giveaway}

Posted on August 2, 2011June 23, 2018 by jenny

One of the activities on our list of things to do this summer was go to a City Farm. Fortunately last week Edward and I were invited down to Hackney City Farm to have a look around and hear about an exciting new website where you can be your own farmer. We enjoyed our visit and Edward met pigs, sheep, goats, a donkey and lots of geese and chickens for the first time.

He didn’t exactly react as I thought he would and was scared of some of the animals! I’m hoping a couple more visits and he’ll be chasing the pigeons away. As well as visiting the animals, we learned about planting vegetables, saw the hives (situated in an unusual place) and the garden. Hackney City Farm also has a lovely cafe which serves delicious food.

Farmerama is a BAFTA nominated online game from Bigpoint that allows you to become a successful farmer. In this fun free-to-play game, you start off with a small patch of land and an old farm house, where you can plant conventional and exotic fruit and vegetables, whilst taking care of chickens, cows, pigs and many more. You can also build up your farming empire by trading your goods at the thriving Farmer’s Market, using the profit from your sales to buy new animals, plants and buildings. You can also enter regular competitions or festivals to show-off your hard work to other players and get rewarding by winning trophies, helping you to become one of the most famous farmers in the game!

You can play Farmerama by registering for a free account at: www.farmerama.com

Giveaway:

I have been given 5 unlocked Farmerama accounts for readers of the gingerbread house. These give access to all the features in the game so your child (or yourself, of course) can jump straight in and start herding the best animals straightaway without having to unlock them. If you fancy trying the game yourself simply leave me a comment below. Just for fun tell me your favourite farmyard animal.

For additional entries (please leave separate comments for each action):

  • Follow my blog on Google Friends Connect
  • Tweet “I want to be a farmer with @gingerbread_mum” or use the retweet button below
  • Leave a comment on a non competition post (let me know which one you commented on)

This giveaway will close 14th August 2011 at midnight and is open to UK residents only. Winners will be chosen at random and contacted using the email address or twitter name supplied. If any winner does not reply within 3 days the competition will be redrawn. Good luck!

    This looks great. My favourite farmyard animal has to be the pigs. They’re fantastic – able to get all mucky with no-one to tell them to clean up!

    I hope this gets through, I keep getting a very odd message saying I’m posting comments to quickly….strange! My favourite farmyard animal is sheep. Stroking a sheep is like rubbing your hands over a carpet.
