Gold foil gingerbread house decorations

Have you decorated for Christmas yet? We put our decorations up today and we are enjoying the colourful lights and seeing our favourite decorations. We’ve been making for gold foil decorations. They are so quick and easy to make and metallics reflect the Christmas lights well. I thought I would share how we make ours.

You will need the following items:

Metallic foil sheets

Embossing pen with 4 different sized tips

Scissors

Gingerbread house cookie cutter or shape

Metal punch

Liberty scraps for hanging

How to make gold foil gingerbread house decorations

Place your cookie cutter or template over the metallic sheet and carefully draw around it with the embossing pen (you can also use a sharp pencil if you don’t have an embossing pen). Cut out your shape using sharp scissors.

Now decorate your house using the embossing pen. Press gently and you can make any shapes you like. We added doors, windows and recreated icing swirls around the windows.

We made different sizes of houses (we have a lot of cookie cutters!) and even added in some gingerbread people, trees and stars. Use any Christmassy cookie cutter you can find to make your own metallic decorations.

When we had made plenty of decorations we used a punch to make a small hole at the top of each shape.

Then we added a thin strip of Liberty fabric so each decoration can be hung. They look so pretty hanging on the tree!
