St Patrick's Day Pot of Gold paper plate lacing craft

St Patrick’s Day Pot of Gold paper plate lacing craft

Posted on February 13, 2019February 29, 2024 by jenny

I love celebrating St Patricks’ Day. It’s such a lovely, colourful celebration after the drab months of Winter. As we walked to karate this evening we were all amazed by the colours in the sky. It was so lovely to walk in the twilight and we’re counting down the days until the clocks spring forward next month.

After the success of our Nativity lacing paper plate craft we are back with another lacing craft. These are great for honing those fine motor skills and who doesn’t love a rainbow too!

Pot of Gold paper plate lacing craft supplies:
Paper plate
Yarns in rainbow colours
Scissors
Hole puncher
Black and green markers
Yellow pony beads

Pot of Gold paper plate lacing craft instructions:

Fold the paper plate in half. Most paper plates have a ridged border, trace this to form the inside circle.

The pot of gold is simply a circle with a long skinny rectangle on top. Any shaped pot will do, just make sure the top rim is large enough to create 6 hole punches.

Cut out the shape with scissors.

Then hole punch 6 holes along the top of the pot of gold, one for each colour of the rainbow.

Hole punch along the inside circle of the plate, make sure they are evenly spaced.

Colour the pot of gold black and the bottom of the paper plate in green for the grass.

Start with the red yarn on the first pot of gold hole punch, thread through and tie to secure.

Then thread through the border hole and back at the pot.

Sporadically add a yellow pony bead to the yarn before threading it back through the next hole to fill the pot with gold (beads).

Follow this technique with all the colours of the rainbow, each colour will have it’s own hole at the top of the pot of gold.

Secure each end on the back with a knot.

Your lucky rainbow pot of gold is now complete. We think this makes a lovely craft for kids to celebrate St Patrick’s Day!

This is such a lovely idea. Fab use of colour and clever to include beads to add a different dimension

Is there any chance you would have a template for the rainbow to the pot of gold paper plate craft?

      No, I’m afraid I don’t have a template.
