We’re all very excited that Advent has started in our house. Advent calendars have been opened, Advent candles lit, and our Elf on the Shelf has taken up his position in our house. We’ll be opening the first book in our book advent today too. This year I also made a little advent garland, each one features a small activity to keep us busy during this festive month.
I used brown paper bags (which I bought from Lakeland) and folded each one roughly into four equal parts, then cut them apart, turning over two corners on one side to make the roof.
I decorated each house with some colourful washi tape and also used a small piece on the back of each house to keep the folded corners down. I thought it was good to make each a little different so I didn’t worry too much about taking measurements or running out of one type of washi tape.
I think they make a great advent garland, hung from little numbered pegs, and have added a little Christmas activity on the back of each one to keep us busy.
Hopefully we’ll have time to do the following:
make a wreath
make a felt gingerbread house
go to a Pantomime
paper star garland
visit Father Christmas
make Reindeer dust
candy cane pipe cleaners
buy an Xmas tree with daddy
washi tape paper chains
write a letter to Father Christmas
wear new pyjamas to bed
gingerbread tea party
make mince pies
paper snowflakes
put up the Christmas decorations
make out own gingerbread playdough
decorate gingerbread biscuits
hang our stockings up by the fire
bake a gingerbread house
paint with cookie cutters
make our own mince pies
take a bag of toys to the charity shop
go to a carol concert
drive round town at night and look at the decorations
