Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for the last few years. It’s my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me smile in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures.
Five Happy Things {Week 37/2025}
I bought a lovely Persephone grey copy of The Fortnight in September by R C Sherriff. I’d heard great reviews of it, and thought it would be fun to read it during the month of September. I finished it today and really loved it. Such a lovely book about a family going on their annual holiday to the seaside at Bognor.
There’s a definite feeling of Autumn in the air. I picked up some super cute little munchkin pumpkins at the supermarket and have got my candles out. The evenings feel so much shorter and darker already, but the decorations and candles are making me smile.
I found a jar of mincemeat at the back of the cupboard, just about in date. I made a batch of delicious chewy mincemeat cookies. They smelled like Christmas! I have plenty of mincemeat left over so I will be making something else this week.
My daughter needed a treat so we took her to Kate’s Waffle Cabin. They have a great menu of waffles and pancakes. We all chose something different. I went for fluffy pancakes with cinnamon sugar but my daughter had waffles with ice cream. So a great little pick me up.
I made a start on my Christmas crafting, just so I could get through it all. I buy too many festive craft projects and never have time to finish anything. So this year I got everything out and made a list of them to remind myself. Last week I finished the Little Stitchy Bee wooden ornaments. These will look great on my tree.
Let me know what’s made you smile this week 🙂

Mini pumpkins make me so happy, too. They are the official decoration of fall, in my book.
I am interested in the book; it sounds like a great book. And I’m sure your daughter enjoys the waffles.
You have just reminded me that my son has been asking to go to our local waffle shop. I love the sound of the cookies, love any Christmas smells.
I feel the autumn in the air too, but it might just be the cold rain! I did not know you could make mincemeat cookies – they sound very interesting.
Autumn is definitely in the air, and I’m loving it. It’s my favorite season, and it’s perfect for getting outside and enjoying plenty of activities, which is what we’ve been doing a lot lately.
The Fortnight in September sounds like a terrific book. Thanks for your suggestion and I’ll try to pick it up.
Those decors are really cute! My favorite is the snowflake. Happy to hear about the happy things you had this week. Looking forward to your next post.
I love these little glimpses into your week! Those mincemeat cookies sound incredible, and starting Christmas crafts early is such a smart move. And yay for autumn candles and munchkin pumpkins, such a mood!
