Three Kings cake

Five Happy Things {Week 2/2025}

Posted on January 12, 2025January 14, 2025 by jenny

Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for the last few years. It’s my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of the adventures we have as a family.

Five Happy Things {Week 2/2025}

Last week it snowed and was so very cold. It definitely felt like Winter and we celebrated by making our very first Three Kings cake. It tasted delicious and we wished me had made one before!

Sadly we took the Christmas decorations down. It took ages to take all the lights down and the decorations off the tree but the house felt bigger without them all. I gave the house a good clean and felt ready to face the New Year.

I read a lot over the Christmas holidays and finished The Book of Beginnings by Sally Page. This is an author I’ve read before and I always enjoy her books. This ticked off the first book of my challenge to read 35 books this year.

As well as reading I completed The World of Miss Marple which was a jigsaw I received for Christmas. This was a 1000 piece jigsaw and was quite fun, especially as the weather has been so cold.

Vanessa Bell dinner service

Over the weekend we visited the Vanessa Bell: a world of form and colour at the Milton Keynes Gallery, followed by The National Museum of Computing at Bletchley, home to the world’s largest collection of working historic computers. It felt good to have a proper day out and see some new things.

    I love that your main challenge is to read 35 books! I can’t wait to read more this year. I wish I could commit to 35 books, I should!!!

    I really want to start reading more books! I’m an avid reader, but I’m so busy that by the time I have any free time, I’m so tired. LOL.

    I would LOVE to see actual working historic computers. I’m a huge tech nerd, so that sounds like a lot of fun to me.

    The house does always look bare and empty once the decorations are taken down. I have not heard of the three kings cake before but looks great am off to have a google now

    It is always a bit sad pulling down the decorations isn’t it?! We pulled ours down and put them all back in the loft only to realise we had left the garland on our stairs, and it’s currently still there haha x

    Your week sounds so cozy and fulfilling! The Three Kings cake must have been such a fun and delicious project. I love how you balanced reading, puzzle-solving, and museum visits. The Vanessa Bell exhibition and the National Museum of Computing sound like the perfect winter outings. Wishing you many more happy moments in 2025!

    It’s been so called here, too and there’s another arctic blast coming next week. Brrr! Congrats on the jigsaw puzzle. Never tried completing a 1000 piece before.

    I love the idea of a happy list. I don’t think I have heard of Sally Page books, but I am sure I’ve browsed or scrolled past a book before, Ill have to check it out. Also, I am a puzzle lover myself, I like that it was AC themed!

    It was sad for us too to remove the Christmas decorations. It’s so good to read your happy things. I love puzzles too.
