It’s not often I receive emails from people which I have to read a couple of times because they are so lovely. A couple of weeks ago I received a comment on my blog from Emma at painted style who had read how much I love vintage Fisher Price and offered to send me the Fisher Price school desk for my collection!
Fisher Price vintage loveliness
They are top of my charity shop wish list as I follow them on ebay whenever I see them, but hadn’t purchased one – yet.
Emma said “I’ve been car booting for decades and amassed a huge collection of vintage Fisher Price. I love the stuff and I figured if I ever had children I‘d never need to buy them any toys! Well, fast forward a few years and my daughter only has eyes for modern (ugh!) Disney tat, so I started selling all the Fisher Price on ebay. Apart from a wind up radio just like the one I had as a child. Anyway, I have the school desk. Please let me send it to you!”
I did re-read her message a couple of times before saying how much I would love to add it to my collection. She turned down my offer to contribute towards it or pay postage costs.
Her reply made me laugh so much, “I have so much ebay crap to sell that we have lost our downstairs loo and it’s in danger of a landslide, so you’d be doing me a favour!”
I love it, and more importantly the children do too.
When it arrived the toddler immediately assumed (rightly, for once) it was for him and they have been playing with it ever since. It’s one of my favourite vintage Fisher Price items. In case you haven’t seen them before it consists of a desk, tray of magnetic letters of the alphabet and cards to spell words using the magnets.
The toddler knew what to do right away (how do they know these things?) and has been having fun spelling the words. The baby has been having fun throwing the magnets around all over the floor. I adore vintage toys and think the children can have as much fun with them as they do their more modern toys.
Blogging is a funny old hobby but once in a while something lovely happens as a result. Thank you Emma!

November 18, 2012 at 11:32 amThat is so lovely! I’ve also got a big collection of vintage fisher price toys – I pretend I’m getting them for the kids, not strictly true… Always look out at car boots, but they are getting harder to find now.
(great info for the christmas swap!) 🙂

November 18, 2012 at 11:16 pmI cant resist anything vintage! I do slightly draw my breath when one of the children is a little boisterous but I love to see them using them 🙂

November 19, 2012 at 12:08 pmI adore vintage toys, too. Even though calling my toys from my childhood year “vintage” makes me a bit sad and feel like an old hat! 🙂

November 20, 2012 at 10:26 amThat is so lovely! We have my husband’s fisher price garage for our boys to play with and when we visit his Mum she kept the record player, phone on wheels and various other happy memories that our kids all love playing with now!

January 1, 2013 at 12:22 amG’Day! Thegingerbreadhouse,
Interesting Post, Hi. I played with the old fisher price little people as a child, and now that I have a child of my own I would like to buy some for her to play with. I have looked on ebay, but I was just wondering if anyone had any that they would be interested in getting rid of? Or know of any place that the can be bought at a reasonable price? Thank you!
All the Best
