Exploring space with FIMO kids form and play sets

Posted on January 12, 2016July 8, 2016 by jenny

I’m so excited to be starting the year by working with Staedtler again. You may remember we teamed up last year and we had lots of fun with their products. They kindly sent me a bundle of products to use with my children, the first one we tried was one of the FIMO form & play sets.

FIMO form and play

It can’t have escaped your notice that a pretty big film came out at the end of last year. My 5 year old loved The Force Awakens and now is a huge fan of all things Star Wars. I knew he would love to craft with the FIMO kids form & play Space set, and he did.

FIMO kids ‘form&play’ is available in ten theme worlds with different contents but all contain four blocks of FIMO, a cutting tool, instruction booklet and the packaging transforms into a handy backdrop for your creations.

FIMO form and play

My 5 year old opened the Space packet and looked through the instructions, deciding which model to make first. He doesn’t play with playdough as much as he used to so we had a chat about the difference between FIMO and playdough. There were 3 models to make, a rocket, space ship and alien space craft.

The pictorial instructions were easy for him to follow and I liked the fact they included how much FIMO to cut off and use. He soon got used to rolling it in his hands to warm it up and he was really pleased that his creations looked like the ones in the instructions.

These are great kits if you need an introduction to FIMO or like following instructions. There was a little bit of FIMO left, enough for my son to make a few of his own ideas. I would have liked a plastic mat included with the contents, but this is a small point and I was able to remove any traces of the FIMO with a wet wipe.

I baked his creations in the oven according to the instructions. When they had cooled down he set them up in front of the cardboard backdrop.

The sets are priced around £9.99 which I think represents good value as this kit kept my son occupied for a good hour. We can’t wait to try some of the other kits in the range.

What a fab set! I love that it included a backdrop for your creations, so children can play with their models within a setting after. Your son made some fantastic models there.

I love playdoh and it’s one of the first toys my nepews get out when they come over to mine, I have a strict “no blending the colours” policy though, which they follow. haha
    Got to have rules XD

This is a really great dexterity activity. My boy loves playdoh so this would be great. I will need to pin this – as it is his birthday coming up soon! Thank you for sharing. #letkidsbekids
