Today we ‘re taking part in a fun 60 Day Junk Play Challege hosted by best toys 4 toddlers. The challenge is running throughout March and April so pop over for some really fun play ideas which turn everyday junk items to toys and play ideas.
We love play and upcycling and the only hard part was choosing which material to play with. We chose matchboxes.
Easy matchbox treasure box
We took some empty cardboard matchboxes and covered them in pretty papers and old magazines to cover up the advertising and strike strip.
We also cut a strip to fit inside.
Then came the fun part! I don’t know about you but my children have a huge collection of small plastic toys and these are the perfect size for storing little treasures.
We’ve had great fun filling our little matchbox treasure boxes. I asked the children to fill them with as many small treasures as they could find. This took them a good long while to hunt through their toy boxes and there was some healthy competition between them!
I set them a colour scavenger hunt where they had to look for small items of one colour only which was great for aiding their colour recognition.
We then tried to fit in as many Lego pieces and buttons as we could.
Their little matchboxes have kept them occupied for a while and I like the fact they are easy to make and personalise with stickers or colouring pens. Endless fun with an empty matchbox.
