This year we are trying to not buy any new decorations but rather use what we have. Last year we added some pretty crochet mistletoe to our decorations and I thought I would share a tutorial for easy crochet stars. These are so much fun to crochet and would look amazing hanging on a Christmas tree.
Crochet stars supplies:
Yarn – medium or medium-light
Crochet hook – 2.5 mm or 23 mm
Scissors
Tapestry needle
Easy crochet stars instructions:
Start with a magic ring. To make a magic ring, you can use your 2 fingers to create a double loop around both fingers. Keep 2 inches yarn on the open end after creating the double loop. Insert the crochet hook through the loop and yarn over from the closed end.
Pull the yarn through the loops.
Work 1 chain stitch through the current loop (on the hook). The magic ring is complete. Keep the ring loose for now. If you pull the open end of the magic ring, the loop will become smaller.
Work 1 single crochet (SC) through the magic ring.
Work a double crochet (DC) through the magic ring.
Now, chain 2.
Next, work another double crochet (DC).
Work a single crochet.
Work a double crochet and then chain 2.
Work a double crochet again. Repeat *SC, DC, CH 2, DC.
Repeat this pattern “SC, DC, CH 2, DC” a total of 5 times for a 5 point star.
Pull the open end of the magic ring as tightly as possible and close the centre hole of the ring. This will form the 5 point crochet star pattern.
Work a slip stitch through the first chain stitch on the magic ring and then pull out a few inches of the yarn.
Cut off yarn from the bundle, keeping 2 or 3 inches extra. Insert a tapestry needle through the open end of the crochet pattern.
Stitch the extra yarn on the backside of the star crochet pattern. If required, cut off extra yarn after stitching a few times. This will secure the star pattern.
Use different coloured yarns and crochet a few more to refine the star pattern.
These are so much fun to crochet and would look amazing hanging on a Christmas tree.

December 9, 2022 at 4:33 pmThese decorations are so cute and easy to do. Will they last if used outside? I am only decorating my Christmas tree in the garden this year so I am using weather proof decorations.
