How to make a Duck Tape Minecraft chest

A few weeks ago my son had his 8th birthday and we held a Minecraft themed birthday party for him at home. I needed something to hold all the prizes as we had organised a lot of games to keep the children busy. I thought a Minecraft chest would be perfect and it was really easy to make. I love ot craft with Duck Tape so thought I would share how I made it in case it’s useful.

Equipment used:

Brown paper

Cardboard box

Black and Silver Duck Tape

Double sided tape

I found the perfect sized box and cut the tabs from the lid to make it open like a Minecraft chest.

Then I covered the whole box and lid in brown paper, using double sided tape to stick it to the box. At this stage it didn’t look very exciting but wait and see what happened when I added the detail with the black Duck Tape!

I carefully covered the edges with black Duck Tape, copying a picture of a Minecraft chest. The tape was the perfect size to go around the edges, and also covered up loose pieces of brown paper and kept everything securely in one place.

When I had finished adding tape to the edges I cut a smaller piece to go around the lid of the box. I added a small piece of silver Duck Tape for the lock.

I was really pleased with my finished Duck Tape Minecraft Chest. You could cover the whole chest with brown Duck Tape if you wanted but I thought the brown paper did a good job. It was the perfect size for holding all the Minecraft themed treats I had for my son’s Minecraft themed birthday party and made a good centre piece for the table too.
