Don’t neglect your living room any longer – fall in love with it again instead!

For most of us, the idea of completely redesigning a room is one usually left for those make-over shows we see on the TV in between changing nappies, running errands and being just generally too busy. It’s common for living rooms to become old and tired. We spend most of our time in there – whether it’s during the day or on an evening. So arguably the living room gets a lot of traffic and is the busiest room of the house.

We’d all love a new floor – check out discountflooringdepot.co.uk for a little inspiration, but for many of us, cordoning off the living room for a few days and disrupting the family order is out of the question. But did you know, you can still easily re-decorate and refresh? It’s true! Just making a few minor changes here and there can make a world of difference. Here, let me show you a few examples.

Your windows

When was the last time you had new curtains or blinds in your living room? Why not give your windows something new and different to wear and really catapult your living room into a new era! Curtains are relatively easy to hang and it’s something you can do within a couple of hours. Which means that your living room can have a completely fresh look by the time the kids are back from school!

If you’re looking for practicality, then don’t forget to check out blinds as an option: venetian, wooden, roller, vertical… the choices and fabrics available are huge.

Your floor

Introducing a new rug into the living room can dramatically alter your living space. You could lighten up a dark room with a light rug or add some depth to a magnolia coloured room by adding something with a strong, deep colour.

Your lighting

The light fixtures we have in our rooms are something we usually just get used to and don’t give much thought to. But if you introduce a new light fixture into your living room, you’ll be surprised at the difference it can make. If you have darker or gloomier corners in the room, then why not invest in a new standing lamp for the corner?

Shelves

Shelves are a great and inexpensive away of both storing items and displaying them too. A place to put your candles, or those lovely new photographs you’ve just had printed. Those ornaments from your Nan or something that the kids have made for you – shelves are a great storage idea that will add depth to your room.

Greenery

Don’t forget to inject a little bit of nature and greenery into your living room, to really make it feel fresh and new. There’s nothing wrong with placing a pretty looking vase (out of reach of little hands of course) and filling it with some fresh flowers you just picked up at the supermarket. Or if you prefer, try a potted plant or maybe some faux flowers in a glass bowl? The possibilities are endless!

You are absolutely right that some times you only need to add small changes to revamp a room and give it a new feel and look.
