Dandelion embroidery

Dandelion embroidery

It’s been a while since I picked up a stitching project. I have a few things on the go, but nothing really grabbing my attention at the moment.

I’ve had a subscription to Love Embroidery magazine for a few years now. It’s not as good as Mollie Makes magazine, which was my favourite, but it’s still pretty good and inspiring. There have been a few good cover gifts but I haven’t made any of them! I have good intentions but never manage to finish one.

One of the latest issues came with a Quick-Stitch dandelion card kit and I knew this was a kit I wanted to try,

The kit included a pre-printed fabric panel, black embroidery thread and a card and envelope. I used one strand of embroidery thread to stitch the dandelion stem and seed head. Did you know that each seed is attached to a characteristic fuzzy structure called a ‘pappus’ that allows the seed to be carried by the wind?

Once I’d finished the dandelion I ironed the fabric, but it’s proving difficult to get those creases out!

I like the idea of sending a fabric card but I’m going to keep the stitched fabric as it is for a while longer. Perhaps I can turn it into something else, like a fabric patch. For now I’ve popped it in into a spare hoop so I can display it and enjoy it.
