You all know that I love my monthly subscription boxes. I find that a monthly magazine and subscription box landing on my door mat really encourages me to be creative. I find it hard to see projects through (hello Shipping Forecast Quilt project!) but a monthly sub box is the perfect size for me.
I was kindly sent a Craftiosity Sub Box to review. It’s a subscription box of modern craft kits (with single kits also available), with a completely new craft and make every other month. A lovely box was handed to me by my postie (it’s too large to fit through the letterbox) which got me really excited. If you read my blog regularly you’ll know I love a crafty challenge. I *try* and make the free gifts which come with Mollie Makes and I’ve tried a few new crafts recently.
I opened up the Craftiosity box and found a lovely kit containing everything needed to make air dry ceramic pots. Inside was baking parchment, air dry clay, clay sculpting tools, sandpaper, a dust mask, copper paint and brush, a little plastic cup and some gorgeous washi tape. The only things not provided were a ruler, kitchen roll and a rolling pin.
I read through the instruction booklet but there’s a video tutorial available if that’s more your thing. I waited for everyone to be out of the house then sat down and got started. I love working with air dry clay although I’m the first to admit I’m not brilliant at it. There’s something lovely about creating with your hands and I enjoyed sitting and making the pots.
I followed the instructions and images to create a pot, decorating it with the end of a paintbrush to add some detail.
I made a little pinch pot too then left them to dry overnight.
The next day I painted them with a gorgeous copper colour paint. I loved making these, I know they’re not perfect but it was so much fun making them. My little pot is perfect for some Spring flowers (with a little plastic pot inside!), and I’m going to use my pinch pot for all the little things my daughter empties out of her pockets at the end of the day.
A one off box costs £20 and a bi-monthly subscription costs £18. You can sign up to the newsletter and find out more about Craftiosity here: http://www.craftiosity.co.uk
