My daughter turned one on Thursday. I can’t believe how quickly the year has gone and a little bit of me wishes she would slow down! We’ve been having lots of ‘firsts’ lately. 2011 has had its ups and downs like any other year but we’re ending it on a high – with an unexpected couple of days with family on the Isle of Wight. I won’t be making any New Year resolutions that I won’t be able to keep. Instead I have my Day Zero list which I’m really enjoying working my way through and will continue doing. I loathe giving my son Calpol after finding out exactly what is in it. However it seems to be the most effective medicine when it comes to his teething which is a lot more painful and sustained than I thought it would be. Time for a quick Day Zero update before another month passes me by: 4. Get through my baby’s teething in one piece! The last few days have been terrible as Edward has not one but three teeth coming through at the top. The pain is excruciating for him and we’re finding it really difficult to comfort him. One of my Day Zero goals has been to get through Edward’s teething. I noticed an increase in his dribbling at about 4 months and foolishly thought this was teething and we would soon see a tooth! I’m resigned to the fact that we’ve recently waved goodbye to those blissful baby months. You know, the ones where you can guarantee that if you leave your baby on his playmat in the middle of the floor he’ll still be there while you answer the door.
