Last weekend we threw my 8 year old a Minecraft themed birthday party. I had so much fun planning the food, drinks, games and party bags. I had some Minecraft tattoos left over and decided to make some simple Minecraft Easter eggs to use as decorations. My 8 year old was quick to tell me that there are no eggs in Minecraft so these are spawn eggs – perfect for those who play the Creative mode in Minecraft and want to spawn good or bad creatures. A few years ago I picked up a vintage foot stool at a car boot sale. I wanted to re-cover it with some lovely Orla Kiely fabric. I think the foot stool may have sat in the spare room for about 6 years until I recently found it again. You know that 2018 is the year of tackling those little projects I stashed away. So this is what it looked like before I upcycled it. There were two parts to it – the wooden base and top. The top was embroidered over a foam pad (although we didn’t know this…

Regular readers will know that every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have had a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new. Issue 89 landed on my doormat earlier this week and for the first time ever, I finished the free cover gift on the day I received it. Remembrance Day is a really important festival in the UK and around the world. It’s a memorial day observed in Commonwealth of Nations member states since the end of the First World War, with the aim to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This Sunday we will be attending the annual Remembrance Day Memorial Service for Scouts, as both our children are Beaver Scouts. This will be our third year attending and it’s a beautiful service. We’ve tried a few crafts around the theme of Remembrance and this year we made a variety…

My children are both going through a Sylvanian Families stage at the moment. It’s not hard to see why, the toys are super cute and perfect for open-ended play. Following our trip to the Sylvanian Families Shop in London a few weeks ago I have been on the look out for simple Sylvanian Families crafts we can do at home. As they also like decorating rocks we came up with our very own Sylvanian Families painted rocks! Equipment to make Sylvanian Families painted rocks smooth stones (we bought ours from the local garden centre) Chalkola Chalk Paint pens Black permanent pen…

Recently I was given a lovely vintage ottoman. An ottoman is a piece of furniture consisting of a padded seat or bench, usually without a back or arms, which typically serves as a box. Ours has a hinged lid and is perfect for storing bedding and towels. Our linen cupboard is overflowing so I thought this would be a great addition. It’s also quite slim so fits perfectly on our landing. The only problem was that it was dark brown with a stained fabric top. It was pretty horrible and definitely in need of some TLC. Here’s the before photograph of…

A while ago now we spotted a couple of wooden cable reels and knew they would be fun to upcycle into a fairy toadstool house for the children to play with. My 5 year old loves her fairy play and I thought this would be a great little upcycling project, as well as making something for her to play with during the summer months. As a Pinty Plus ambassador I used some of the Pinty Plus Basic range which has a range of brilliant bright colours. I also got to try out the the new spray gun which makes spray…

I’ve always enjoyed celebrating Easter. Since our children came along Easter has got bigger and bigger. Before there was giving Easter eggs and enjoying a family meal. Now there are Easter Egg hunts, Easter baking, Easter crafts and gifts. My kids love Easter as much as I do but I’m glad it’s not on the scale of Christmas. I thought it would be fun to put the children’s gifts into an Easter crate this year. I did something similar with a Christmas Eve crate which they enjoyed. So today I’m sharing our Easter version! Creating an Easter crate for kids What…
