We love making sun catchers. They are simple but fun and we now have sorted out the best way to make them, for us. My children love pre-cut templates and I took a pack with us when we went to the beach last week (see the DIY sandcastle flags we made too!). In a quiet moment I took them out. I had cut some pieces of contact paper and packed them along with the black card cut outs, cellophane pieces and scissors. Beach hut sun catchers My 6 year cut the cellophane sheets into strips. I placed their sun catchers…

My children love being outdoors which is lucky because I do too! Our small garden is packed with things to keep them busy from our homemade mud kitchen to the sand pit. If you’re looking for ways to entertain your family outdoors then look no further than Born to Be Wild by Hattie Garlick. Published by Bloomsbury, it includes over a hundred free nature activities to inspire your family to spend more time outside. The other day Little Sis and I enjoyed sitting outside in the garden to look through it. There are lots of fun things to do and…

This year is speeding by and I can’t believe it’s time for our third craft in the Project: Recycle and Create series. This months materials was egg cartons which I don’t think we’ve ever crafted with before. We had plenty of egg cartons in our recycling box so tried our hand at making egg carton flowers. Egg boxes aren’t half as much fun as I remember from my own childhood. They’ve been re-designed so it’s much harder to cut out a decent dimple to craft with. Instead we cut out the bits in between! Once removed my 4 year old…

There are some lovely prints out for spring and one of my favourites is the new novelty Gnomes design from Cath Kidston. Apparently his name is Gnorris, and this cheeky chappie will be popping up here, there and everywhere on their social channels over the next couple of weeks. He takes centre stage on a collection of new products including practical bags, classic mugs, aprons and even a knitted tea cosy. Gnorris the Gnome Perched here and there amongst the flowers in British gardens, you’ll find the quintessential English garden gnomes. Of course Cath Kidston couldn’t resist including these cheeky chappies…

We’ve kept our Easter decorations really simple this year. We have our white seasonal tree up and it’s decorated with clear plastic eggs filled with pastel coloured pom poms and mini eggs. I found some ceramic eggs in the craft shop and thought these would be a great addition to our tree. They came in a little kit with some paint but I kew they would look much better if I decorated them with temporary tattoos instead. To tattoo Easter eggs you will need ceramic or polystyrene eggs, temporary tattoos, water and a brush. How to make temporary tattoo Easter…

On Wednesday we took part in a Twitter party for Blaze and the Monster Machines. The children love taking part in Twitter parties and this was a fun one as we got to see the latest Blaze and the Monster Machine toys, as well as take part in some fun STEM activities. Blaze knows everything about science, technology, engineering and maths. When things get really tough he can use his scientific know-how to transform himself into any machine. During the Twitter party we took part of four educational STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) focussed activities, and played with lots of new Blaze…

Today I’m joining in with the monthly Kid Craft Challenge organised by The Resourceful Mama. The theme this month is a craft from a recycled item and as we have (many) offcuts of wood in the shed, I thought it would be fun to make something from these. Chalkboard wooden house blocks First I asked my husband to cut the offcuts into smaller pieces. I roughly measured the blocks about 10cm x 5cm, and he cut them using his electric mitre saw. My 5 year old helped sand each block using a sanding block. My husband taught him the correct way to…

Are you getting in the mood for Easter? We definitely are and have loved doing Springtime crafts. We’re all counting down the days until the school holidays start and we can all relax from the school routine. I’ve been taking part in Easter egg hunts since I was little and I love the fact my children now enjoy it too. They both take a basket and go off around the house (and garden, weather permitting) to search for eggs to fill them with. Every year we seem to use different decorations and this year we have had a go at…

St George’s Day isn’t celebrated until April 23rd but that didn’t top us having fun with this George and the Dragon luminary. We really enjoy crafting with these large glass jars and now the children are a little bit older I don’t worry about them so much. Saint George lived in the 3rd century and was born in what was the Roman Empire, somehow he ended up as the patron Saint of England. Supplies needed to make a St George and the dragon luminary Clip top glass jar with clip-top lid removed Bostik White Glu Green tissue paper wooden peg doll…
