A couple of year ago I fell in love with a vintage Lloyd Loom nursing chair and bought it. There was the slight matter that I bought it in Devon and we lived in London, but my husband kindly squeezed it into our little car. I bought it for my son’s room and covered it with a cute Cath Kidston print. Roll on a couple of years and it made it’s way into my daughters’ room. I’ve been meaning to change the cover for ages but never got round to it – until this weekend! Yes, I finally made a…

Bigger isn’t always better: it’s often the case that smaller homes are cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain and less effort to clean. In fact, there’s a certain charm about living in a humble abode! But what can you do about your lack of storage space? Well, we’d start by taking a look at these quirky, inventive and ingenious storage hacks. Use self storage Forgive us for pointing out the obvious, but you’d be wise to consider storing some of your belongings if you’re running out of room. I love this time of year. The sun is feeling warmer, the days are noticeably longer and I’ve been using my free afternoons when my daughter is at nursery to tackle some much-needed decluttering. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the winter months but there’s something about taking down the Christmas decorations and finding a home for all those Christmas presents that makes me want to have a big tidy up! I thought I would share my top tips for decluttering in case you want to start, but don’t know where to: Write a list of those areas you want…

I’ve been toying with the idea of using a Planner to get organised in 2016. I’m a bit of a list keeper and find writing lists and crossing things off really helpful. The only problem is where to keep them. Add to my lists the family calendar in the kitchen with the children’s activities and playdates, the calendar on my iPhone with my PTA and choir commitments and then scribbled ideas for blog posts and that is a lot of things to remember. The Life Planner I invested in the Life Planner from Lollipop which I first heard about when…

I’ve been feeling rushed off my feet lately. This is a busy time of year for everyone but several things are being squeezed into the next couple of days and I’m looking forward to a break over Christmas. Today a lovely little package landed on my doorstep which definitely cheered me up. I love subscription boxes and the Happy Paper Club is one of the best. Everything is neatly packaged inside a slim cardboard box which should fit through your letterbox. I think this is an important part of subscription boxes as there’s nothing worse than making a special trip…

Winter has at last arrived and when I ventured out today I was well and truly buffeted by Storm Barney. I admit to having a small obsession with the weather and the Shipping Forecast and love to make my home cosy and warm at this time of year. I’ve written a little about taking more care of myself this year. I’ve joined a choir so I can indulge one of my passions, I love my adult colouring books and am working my way through every gingerbread recipe book I own, all in the pursuit of create hygge in the home.…

It’s not often I take my laptop into the kitchen but I had a good excuse as I wanted to try some new recipes. Autumn makes me want to cook more traditional meals and we all enjoy a traditional Sunday Roast Dinner. We were invited to take up the ’Tesco 60-Minute Roast Challenge’ – creating a delicious traditional Sunday roast in under an hour. I love cooking and often cook a roast but it’s something I like to take my time with. I admit I was a little nervous about preparing and cooking everything in an hour but I tried…

Our half term started with a visit from my lovely Father in Law. It was great to see him and the children loved having him around but to me visitors = cleaning. I’m no domestic goddess at the best of times but visits from family require a deeper clean than I usually do. His arrival coincided with the children finishing school. Whilst they were there I started changing sheets, cleaning bathrooms and dealing with our every day clutter, which mainly consisted of me hiding it under our bed 🙂 I can’t be the only one who does that, right? Anyway,…

Autumn is a strange season in many ways. It is full of vibrancy, colour and life yet has a sometimes melancholic hint of the coldness to come. Autumn can be cold one day and t-shirt and BBQ weather the next. It’s a real mixed bag but that is what makes it so wonderful. It’s a season of impending festivity. Halloween and Bonfire Night kick off the end of year fun and just as Autumn starts to ebb we brighten up our lives with cheery songs, twinkling lights and hearty meals. Autumn is fantastic inspiration for interior design and a way…
