We’ve had a steady stream of visitors recently so thought we should give our baking a seasonal twist. We love gingerbread so made our favourite gingerbread biscuit recipe and used a great Halloween cutter to make Halloween gingerbread ghosts. We’re lucky to live in a really family-friendly neighbourhood and the last couple of years the children have dressed up to go trick or treating. We know all our neighbours and they always have a few sweets for them when the children visit. I wanted to make some special treat bags with them and thought it would be fun to print out own using apples. Equipment needed to make a homemade Halloween treat bag: Craft paper box with twine handle from The Works Apple Orange acrylic paint and brush How to make a homemade Halloween treat bag: Apples make the…

Don’t shout at me or leave rude comments but we’ve started our Halloween crafting. I know it’s early but we thought we’d make a head start. The weather can’t seem to make its mind up what season it is which doesn’t help. One day we’re wearing winter woolies and the next we’re back in our sandals and shorts. Autumn is my favourite season and we’ve been planning Apple Days and our Autumn fairy garden. Therefore it seemed pretty natural to make some Autumnal sun catcher decorations. My 5 year old was asking when we would be able to buy our…

We’ve had a brilliant half-term. The weather has been amazing and we’ve enjoyed some lovely days out. Our quiet moments were filled thanks to Flora who kindly sent us a copy of their Flora Halloween Fun Pack (available to download from their website) and a creepy crate filled with craft materials. We’ve been quite busy working our way through the fun pack! The guide contains easy and tasty recipes, arts and crafts ideas and games to play with the kids. It was great fun for half-term, especially as both children embraced Halloween this year. As you can see from the…

I’ve had lots of fun decorating my mantel this month. The Autumnal colours have crept in and our nature table has been bursting with leaves, pinecones and seeds which the children have adored picking up. My vintage bus blind is still in its usual place on the mantel. We have done a little decorating this month but still haven’t decided on a permanent home for this. I love it though so I’m glad it’s still somewhere central. As well as the vintage bus blind I have my brass candlesticks, two of my favourite ceramic tea light houses, our clock and…

Yesterday we had a practice run on our Halloween cupcakes. The children are excited as we’ve decided to bake our contribution to the school Halloween party. We made chocolate cupcakes with little graveyard cupcake toppers from Felt-o-Ween. They should be good enough for our own Halloween party the following week too. So far I’ve resisted putting up our Halloween decorations. I’m not sure when’s the right time. We have some costumes, Big Brother is a skeleton (in a comfy onesie) and Little Sis will be a witch. My 4 year old is itching to fill a bowl with spooky sweets…
