    Build Your Own Microscope Kit

    A few months ago we told you about the Plane Launcher kit, one of the new kits from Build Your Own who make sustainable toys with less plastic. This was a a great STEM toy (one which utilises science, technology, engineering and mathematics) for kids aged 8 and over, and they have enjoyed playing with it over and over again. Build Your Own Microscope Kit We recently gifted the latest product in the Build Your Own range, the BYO Microscope kit, which the children couldn’t wait to put together and use. Like the BYO Plane Launcher kit, the BYO Microscope…

    What Are The Best Houseplants To Grow In A Conservatory?

    Out of all the rooms in the house, the conservatory is probably the best suited room for growing plants. In fact conservatories were originally designed with growing plants in mind (specifically citrus fruits). Which is why they’re so adept at growing plants, especially more exotic plants that like heat and humidity as conservatories can get rather hot and humid in the sun. Essentially a conservatory is a greenhouse with furniture inside that has been attached to your home, so there are various plants you can grow in your conservatory. Just be wary that some plants that like heat, such as…

    Summer Holidays edit {Week 305}

    I love to start the week by writing the Monday Happy List. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s a post I love to write. We love the Summer holidays and we were so lucky to get away to Devon for a holiday by the sea last week. Summer Holidays edit {Week 305} We stayed in a pretty AirBnB in Cockwood, Devon, the same place we stayed in during the February half term. We all love…

    How a good routine keeps us sane

    This post is in conjunction with TEMPUR® but all thoughts are my own Like many people we’ve made the most of spending the last few months at home. Whilst the children were learning at home it felt like our dining room was a school room! It wasn’t ideal, but being safe was the most important thing. We spent a lot of time tidying and de-cluttering and maintaining a good routine to keep us all sane during an insane time. How a good routine keeps us sane I’m a person who thrives on routine. I love to plan and make lists…

    Pick your own sunflowers at Darts Farm

    Each year, Darts Farm grow fields of beautiful sunflowers and ask for donations to raise money for Hospicecare. We have been eagerly looking for somewhere to pick our own sunflowers. Last year we visited the Pop Up Farm in Hertfordshire but they sadly announced that they wouldn’t be open for sunflowers this year. Happily for us we were near to Dart’s Farm at just the right time to go sunflower picking today. A morning at Darts Farm It’s been a few years since our last visit to Dart’s Farm which is just outside Exeter in south Devon. On our visit…

    2020 The Year We All Stayed At Home

    I know that for many people 2020 will not be a year they want to remember. However amongst the stress and disruption there are many positives I want to remember. These include the special family time we have enjoyed, the chance to get to know our neighbours and explore our local area, all whilst keeping safe at home. We will have a few special souvenirs of this special year. As well as my blog posts detailing what we got up to each week we have the Coronavirus scrapbooks the children kept, photos from our Door Step photography shoot, and the…

    How to solve a Rubik’s Cube

    I don’t know about you, but I’ve never managed to solve a classic Rubik’s Cube. My husband loved the challenge and taught himself a few years ago, but I just never had the patience. We have a few different Rubik’s puzzles and they are great for popping into a handbag if we’re going out for dinner or on a car journey. They are a really fun challenge for kids (and adults too!). Can you learn to solve the Cube this summer? Rubik’s 40th anniversary This year Rubik’s are celebrating their 40th year this year and kindly gifted us a selection…

    Love in the Time of Cholera

    Photo by Markus Winkler on Unsplash The pandemic has changed our lives in so many ways but after so many weeks of being isolated in our family bubble it feels good to be venturing out more. This weekend we had brunch in our favourite local cafe and a socially distanced playdate with school friends. We took the puppy out for a walk and tidied up the garden. I like that we have more freedom and a choice of things to do. Keeping in touch online I’m hoping that weeks of home learning and endless zoom meetings will be a thing…
